If I Was The General Manager of The Leafs

Description
It's time to move on from the core four completely. It hasn't worked. It's crazy it has reached this point without any change. You can't build a serious Stanley Cup roster by paying four forwards 11 million each. It's stupid and crazy.

Arizona wants to sell tickets. With the new stadium in the works having the face of the league there will help a lot.

Leafs don't have four forwards making 11m each. If those players are such a problem, why would other teams give up so much and take on so much cap.

Not a chance Arizona does that, especially not Marner and the same for Nylander unless he comes with a long term extension. They probably won't give up that much for Matthews either.

Besides all 3 Leafs would refuse to waive anyhow.

Marner at 8 million is a bargain. Nylander at 3 and a half for Colorado for this year makes them Stanley cup favourites. And Arizona can afford Matthews.

Doubtful, when McDavid finally gets out of edmonton he's going to want to go to a team he feels has a much better chance of winning the cup than the Leafs.

Three years is a long time. Leafs should trade the core four, hit the reset button, and build a young team on the cusp of great things with McDavid available as a free agent. I would prefer the Leafs pay McDavid 17 million than each of these guys 12-13 million each.

Avs decline. They don't have the cap space and aren't going to give up those assets for a rental regardless of the value or not.

Honestly I challange anyone to try and be a GM of a team for 1 day and would probs break and understand what these guys go through

They cant rush into deals

Negotiating aint easy

And they need to ensure all goes well on and off the ice and throughout the organization.

Like if a GM attempted to do this ownership would fire them before anything was concluded or Shanahan would say no

AZ is not giving up 19yo top C, 20yo top W, and 25 RFA top D plus 2x 1st for AM, not matter how great he is.

It's not much. A 1st for Nylander, another 1st for the retention, a couple of bottom of the roster players. Nylander is on a 100 point pace and would put a Stanley cup contender over the top, much like Gaborik did for the Kings in 2012.

no he is not - no one player is worth 3 top core future players and 3 high picks. NBA sure, but not NHL or MLB or NFL. one player plays 20m of 300m or 5% of the skaters icetime,

next year AM (and I am huge fan would love him in AZ) will be 15.1% of the cap space, thats too much for one guy if want to have a deep team with no holes.

It's more to do with long term asset management. The price isn't the issue per se. The fact is that there is no guarantee he puts them over or even fits in. Those assets aren't ones the Avs can afford to splurge on a pure rental which is what Nylander would be.

I forgot about that. The reset should begin after then. Give Matthews, Marner and JT two more cracks at it then start the rebuild.

Exactly, Especially with the 28 mill in cap space for supporting cast, Minten; Knies; Cowan on ELCs and the cap going up...
