Oh boy. No thank you from the Leafs side.

Nylander for Zegras one for one. Anaheim only does this if there is an extension in place.

Minten is looking very promising and 2 x 1st? That on it's own is work it for Anaheim. Let alone Nylander being added.

Why would the rebuilding Ducks want Nylander as a main piece in the middle of their rebuild?

From the view point of the Ducks, this is what is needed.

Nylander, even with a contract extension means very little to the Ducks, they are still in the rebuild process and doesn't look to be pushing the panic button for instant help.

No thanks from the Leafs....and maybe the Ducks too.
Rather have one year of Nylander and then free cap when he goes to UFA, and Minten, the two firsts rather than four controllable years of Zegras.
Why would Nylander waive?

2 x 1st and Minten would be a sizeable package as is. Anaheim still might not do it, but that's more than fair.

Just cant see a world where this happens unless Verbeek has a Lou moment mid way through the season

Nylander does well at 3c and Verbeek overpays

Seeing all these Nylander for Zegras trades are really bad.

Only way the Ducks consider this is with added 1st Rd picks and the thought of if Nylander doesn't resign, they can trade him to get a couple more high Rd picks.

So trade Zegras to gain 4+ high Rd picks/prospects.

Ducks would probably prefer multiple pieces from the Knies, Robertson, Minten, Moldenhauer, Niemela, Grebenkin list

Honest question though, I know you day that's a sizeable package but would you do this trade. 2024 9th overall for 2025 33rd overall, 2027 28th overall and 2028 28th overall? Because that's what this offer would be, not saying it's bad, Jost saying that's how it would look to them. Zegras was 9th overall, since they put in 3 years of development I moved the other picks 3 years away, since that's likely when they start to be impactful. Minten is #33 next year since I think he's a good prospect and was taken in the second round. The picks that Toronto would be sending are expected to be late, that's why I made them 28th overall, hopefully for Leafs fans sake they are later than that. I'm not trying to be insulting just that's how Anaheim would look at that offer.

I would disagree that Nylander means very little to the Ducks because they are definitely looking to exit the rebuild sooner rather than later, or they wouldn't have signed guys like Strome and Killorn to multi-year deals. That being said, they value Zegras much more than Nylander, and I think they would reject the offer (even though it's a massive overpay), because getting 4+ 1sts or Nylander + Minten + 2 1sts would set them back in their rebuild.

Nylander+Minten+ the 2 1sts might not set them back in terms of the rebuild but it's quite possible that Nylander is declining or asking for a trade before Anaheim really hits their contention window. Also, unless the Ducks are confident that Minten can at least be the future 2C (he would need to prove something at the NHL level in the regular season at least) and Nylander/Strome the current 1C up (edit: until Leo Carlsson takes over), I don't think the trade would make much sense for Anaheim in terms of roster construction even if they become competitive after the trade.

I definitely, agree with the main point of all this that Zegras for Nylander 1 for 1 is bad. Even if this is viewed as two Cs for each other, the problem with this is that Anaheim doesn't have the supporting cast to even try accelerating their rebuild (which is usually always a bad idea). Also, considering that the only reason Zegras (like Drysdale) isn't signed is because Verbeek is trying to squeeze him to get a value contract (I'm guessing in the Thompson-Hughes range but closer to Thompson). There's 0 chance that would work with Nylander for obvious reasons. Landing Zegras in a trade would probably require that a young C (22-25) is coming back in the return to Anaheim. Either something like Chytil+ for Zegras or Zegras+ for Pettersson if they do look to accelerate the rebuild.

Looking at it from 10,000 feet, Nylander for Zegras is fair. A proven commodity requiring $ and term for a rising commodity not yet commanding the same level of $. Is it wise for Anaheim considering the rest of their team, likely not. Asking to add Minten and 2 1sts plus stuff is plain silly irrespective of their projected draft ranking.

You would definitely have to ignore some factors for the 1 for 1 to ne fair. I would say that Nylander's extension would need to be equivalent or close enough to what it would cost to extend Zegras for 8-years now.

There's no question that the trade package is ridiculous, the only reason for the Leafs to consider is if it's a one for one. I was just talking from the Anaheim perspective, It just doesn't make much sense for them to trade Zegras at all at this time unless there's a viable 1C replacement (internally or via trade).

Nylander one for one for Zegras is brutally bad for the Ducks, that's my point.

It'll take a massive overpay, like it or not.

In other words, no trade is coming, heck Maple Ducks and Mighty Leafs are not even discussing it.
