First Z trade that wasn’t disgusting from the ANA perspective. Gotta be an overpayment.

But something built around Slaf going the other way should get a convo going that’d have a real shot

Now that's just homer talk.

Let's be real, the Habs reached when they took Slaf. He wasn't the unanimous #1 pick his year, hell, he wasn't even the unanimous #2. Draft boards had him going in the 5-8 OA range. NHL central scouting didn't even have him as the #1 EU skater. So let's not pretend that being 1OA gives him some superpower making him more than what he is. He's projected to be a top of the lineup player, bubble all star. Z is an all-star player, he's bubble elite in his projections, better than Caulfield. He also plays center, which is a more valuable position.

A deal for Montreal to acquire Zegras would start with Slaf, whom Verbeek would admittedly have interest in, but Slaf only gets you halfway there. Montreal's unprotected 24 1st and some other window dressing might get it the rest of the way there. To get a player like Z is going to take alot, and the acquisition cost will hurt.

Don't like those projections? Take it up with Pronman and the Athletic, pulled straight from their site.

5-8?? Stop taking drugs my guy, he was pretty consensus in the battle for 1. It was him and Wright at the end, and he even took the cake in the last 2 weeks. Slaf has more potential than Z, even if his chance of hitting it is smaller. MTL isn't giving up a gem, and hang up the phone if that is the offer. Not saying that it's not the ask for ANA, but it's like Dach in the PLD trades, if Dach was included, the phone hung up. Asking for a decent shot for Celebrini on top of a 2-3rd OA caliber prospect is straight-up dumb and that GM will get mocked by all the other GMs if the conversation is leaked. Zegras is not Bedard. The Athletic is known for their awful takes btw, not really a reliable source when it comes to mock trades and rankings

And yet, you provide nothing to support your argument, no evaluations, no rankings, nada. Just a quip that you don't like the Athletics rankings.

Z has the higher ceiling, and higher floor, is the better player now, and will continue to be throughout his career. I'm sure Slaf isn't a slouch, but if you want a shot at elite, you pay elite prices.

I hate that it’s 2 ducks against 1 Hab, but ignoring draft stock, Z was like twice the producer that Slaf was in his first season, and ballooned big time in year 2, and showed that was no fluke in year 3. Not to mention value of C >W. I feel like it should be relatively consensus Z>>Slaf.

That really just leaves what else would be added by the habs. Is it an unprotected 1st? Maybe not. But I don’t know that we should be acting like it’s ridiculous to say it’s Slaf+

It's a totally fair argument to say that that's the price for Z, but it's fair to say MTL isn't paying that. ANA has a lovely example in their system, Leo Carlsson. MTL got Caufield who is neck in neck with Zegras in redrafts. I get MTL got the winger here and ANA got the center, but it gives a good idea that ANA would definitely not give Carlsson to get Caufield, even if it's just 1 for 1. Same s*** with Zegras vs Slaf

https://thehockeywriters.com/canadiens-prospect-report-juraj-slafkovsky/

If that's the potential, I'm not trading it. These guys probably have a much better sense of hockey management than anyone on this site so it's useless to try and come up with some bs. Create your lala land options on Z's trade value, but MTL rejects a Zegras trade that has Slaf or Caufield, and even Suzuki in it, and fyi, MTL couldn't care less that they don't get Z, he was never a target

No one's redraft has Caugirld and Zegras neck and neck. Z is redrafted 3-5, Caulfield is redrafted 7-12.

Your supporting evidence is a profile written up by someone who says he needs a lot of work, but if everything goes right, he COULD become Mikko Raantanen. It's also from the site that has his pre draft rankings all over the place https://thehockeywriters.com/juraj-slafkovsky-2022-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/

He's not a target? Cool, whatevs, but to say Slaf is better than Z AND tell me I'm the one smoking the good stuff, that's some major projecting there bud.

Homie, do you look at the redrafts?? Z is 3-5 and caufield is 3-5, name me 10 players better than Caufield in 2018, I’ll wait… on your way drop your dealers number, much appreciated
