Quoting: Juiceman
Zegras is kind of overrated. He is good, but is he worth selling your future for?
Short Answer? No
Long Answer? Yes
The cost is high and Short term it sets our build back wasting Zegras's prime years in a reset
Long Term if those holes are filled in the players we gave up then half way through our top line's contracts we'll contend with depth
But its saying we'll play losing seasons for someone else to get our 1st round top 10 pick and that's the hardest sell about all this.
I mean Long Term i think yes only because i Expect that Beck , Roy , Farrell, Tuch ,Hutson, Reinbacher and Engstrom will all be here in a position to take NHL jobs in the next 2 years , Lets say half them bust then my whole hope of Longshots stepping up to fill the gap is toast
Easier to just wait until we have that top 5 pick next draft and parlay that into Zegras even if its at the risk of him being overpaid.
The more they overpay him the less have to over pay them . We have the cap to accommodate for up to 5 years before it becomes a real problem
Even then it would cost us less to clear cap then to pay them in hopes he'll sign for less cause Caufield and Suzuki did
