I’m going to say this knowing I’ll probably get blasted but Bergeron (while certainly going to the HOF) is a bit overrated. He’s not a ppg player or really even close to it for his career. This year’s Selke was also a bit of a lifetime achievement award because both Nico and Marner had better seasons.

For his career he’s .804 ppg, tied in 192nd with Ray Shepard. In the much newer pp60 category he’s at 2.518, that’s 79th overall ahead of Max Pacioretty but behind JT Miller.

On faceoffs he’s amazing, maybe the best since Yanic. He’s a great player and he’s everything that the Toews fan boys think Toews is.

Perhaps this is always the burden of individuals whose main strength is being reliable. Reliability’s impact is not felt in the moment, instead over time.

He can be both first ballot HHOF and also replaceable on the roster momentarily.
