The Canucks aren’t trading a 1st for a guy that would be stuck on their 3rd pair

Why? Why is Peeke worth a 2nd? When gudbranson makes you expendable, that's a pretty terrible endorsement.

I would take a flyer on him if we have the space but right now, he's not worth getting. He's a downgrade on most of what we have.

Youngish big body RHD signed reasonably for a few years is worth a 2nd.

Giving up a 2nd round pick for a 6/7 defenceman is not smart.

Not many 6/7 dmen average 21 minutes of ice time.

On last years blue jackets? They probably would have. Tyler Myers also got a ton of ice time

Guds is immovable. Peeke is not. Jiricek is better than them both.

That's about as far as Peeke's expendabiltiy goes. Not because he is necessarily bad.

A cost controlled Dman who is still young, can eat minutes, block shots and can be deployed in any situation absolutely for a cap strapped team. Writers for the oilers were saying that he was worth a late first in their eyes. I wouldn't go that far but a late 2nd/early 3rd is a great price for the kid. He's the type of player you badly want in a playoff run and just like the whole Gavrikov situation last season at the deadline you can't just look at +/- and say "they suck".

He also isn't necessarily good. He played as much as he did because of injuries and also because Columbus was terrible last year. On a good team he isn't getting those minutes. Especially since he was lit up all last season.

Eat minutes because there was no one else capable of playing and he got destroyed in those minutes. If he was any good, he would have been able produce better results. He didn't, he played a lot and got caved in. How does that make him worth a lot? It doesn't, it's pretty clear Columbus fans realize he's not overly promising and now they want to get a return for someone they don't find value in.

Everyone said the same thing about Gavrikov and look how that turned out. Amazing what happens when you don't have to play in some ****ed up modified zone defensive scheme that was employed by a bad coach which to this day I still don't understand how anyone could look at that and say...yep this will work at the professional level

It's funny how it's never the players fault, always someone else.

Nor should he be getting those minutes, which is why he wasn't necessarily good. Look at what happens when a player is allowed to thrive in a role better fit for them.. A B4 D with term and cost control in a market that is going to be ****ed for at least one more off-season has value justifying a late 2nd.

So he isn't a 20 minute defenceman, best playing 3rd pair minutes because he absolutely isn't good enough to play those big minutes. So why is he valuable? Like Liljegren had to play top pair minutes for a good month last season when the leafs top 4 defenceman were all hurt for an extended period of time. He didn't get destroyed but Peeke did. If Peeke is good, why did he not make anything better? He was caved in, because he's not all that good.
