His defensive play has dropped dramatically since going to Montreal. It started getting worse his last year in Arizona, but is now significantly worse
That card is his last yr in Arizona.
Why has it gotten so much worse? I like using these cards too but sometimes I think they can be overused. That is to say a coaching change, role change, team change can have a dramatic impact on a player.
If he's done it in the past you'd wanna know why he isn't doing it now, especially when it's not age related. Maybe you know?
To make my case even further though. One thing I noticed was Zone starts. Garland went from 70% offensive zone in his last yr in Arizona to 57% to 52% last yr. Dvorak on the other hand was at 41% last season, 44% the yr before, 47% and 62% in his last two yrs in Arizona. I don't know what goes into those defensive metrics but I'm wondering if that skews the numbers.
Ultimately though I'd look at it like this. The difference between Dvorak and our 3c be it Blueger or Aman is bigger than the difference between Garland and his replacement (Hoglander, Di Giuseppi, Podkolzen) whoever it is. We have a lot of depth on the wing and nothing down the center so even if Garland individually might be a better player than Dvorak we could still improve the team making the trade. The icing on the cake is that you get out from the 5 mil commitment a yr earlier with Dvorak as well.
