The player is good but his back is shot, his play style doesn't fit his body anymore which makes him look so bad. It's basically like a fast player having a busted ankle, it just isn't working anymore so good luck in Washington but I wouldn't be surprised if that's his last year in hockey.
31 years old with over 21 millions in the bank, take a bow and save your back.

That 2021 cup run ended the careers of Weber/Price and likely Edmundson. I had him on the LTIR in most of my ACGMs. Washington always made sense tho. Maybe they can pull a Vegas with the Stone situation.

Low risk trade for WSH at $1.75mil AAV. If they get steady Eddy from the 2021 playoffs, it’s a steal, if they get the player from last season (always injured, and barely an NHLer when healthy) it’s an overpay.

MTL wins regardless of Edmundson outcome. They free up cap and a roster spot, and LD is still loaded with better Dmen:

Matheson
Guhle
Xhekaj
Harris

Eddy's a good dman. By the end of the year Caps fans will want him re-signed and if they get into the playoffs, they'll be praising him. Just a matter of time.

Barron is going nowhere. He may not have the upside of Guhle/Reinbacher but he’s a solution on the right

Barron is Laval bound IMO. He only played in the NHL last year because of Injuries. Let him rippen in the AHL. Next year Savard is gone, then we replace Barron with Reinbacher

Matheson-Guhle
Hutson-Reinbacher

That certainly looks like the top 4 going forward but Barron, I’d say, is more certain than Harris or Xhekaj staying with this team from 2024 to beyond

By the time Reinbacher/Hutson are in Montreal, I don't see Matheson still being here.

2024?
Reinbacher is already skating in Mtl and probably would play this year if not for his school commitments

If he signs a contract this year, He will be in Laval, not Montreal. There's no chance management would expose him to the media as an 18 YO. He's not NHL ready

Context matters.
That was if he was healthy without questions which haven't been answered. They could have gotten more had they waited to TDL, maybe, but making room for their kids is a priority. This isnt a contending team but are going through a development stage with MSL. Maximizing assets doesnt come ahead of development.

Looks like Eddy wasn’t a cap dump. Another Hughes W

At $3.5M he was a cap dump. They had to retain 50% to get any value (and even then the Caps overpaid).

He wasn't even that last year. If his back heals up maybe he gets back to being a solid 3rd pairing defenseman, but we'll see.

Well, well, well. Isn't what we've been saying all along... Big Ed isn't a capdump!

It may not be a 2nd, but a 3rd + is pretty decent return.

I don't think anyone was too concerned about him being a dump. It was that "1st and a prospect" era of AGMs that drove us all nuts. Anderson and Dvorak are the dumps (at full cap). Edmundson as a 1.75m player is fine.

They are dumps at full cap hit right now because it's July. Come next February they are worth a 1st +. It's just how the economy works in the NHL

Nobody is paying a 1st for dvorak or anderson in february. MAYBE once the cap rises significantly and teams have more room, then someone will be able to splurge on Anderson, but right now none of the possible buyers have room to give up a haul for an overpaid depth guy. You'd need significant retention to get that.

This is the argument all of us had about Edmundson, there are better options for cheaper. Just like nobody was ever delusional enough to fall for Habs fans assessments of Edmundson, they won't fall for these outrageously high assessments of these guys.

Lehkonen was the capdump, then Chiarot was the capdump, then Edmundson was the capdump...

Look at you moving the goalposts.

There's a market economy in the NHL. You just have to figure out when to buy, and when to sell. Edmundson would've been gone for a 1st + at last years TD if he didn't have those back issues.

I'll eat crow about Lehkonen, but I don't believe I am moving any goalposts for any of the others. Chiarot is a trade the Panthers drastically overpaid for and obviously regret. Nobody saw that as a good deal. And Edmundson went for almost exactly what I think he was worth. I never called him a dump; just said it was ludicrous that he would pull a first. And I'll stick to the same standard regarding Dvorak and Anderson. In this cap constrained NHL, those guys are not getting top value on their full cap hits.

That's a big IF since back problems don't just disapear.

Yes offer and demand tldo make prices fluctuate. IDK if the market was so high at the last TDL (compared to the year prior with Chiarot). I only remember Orlov going for a 1st+ and Schenn for a 3rd as UFA defensemen. Big Ed, in game shapish, was somewhere in between.
