DÉTAILS DE LA CLAUSE: Clause de non-mouvement jusqu'au 14 août 2026. Deviendra une clause de non-échange à partir du 15 août 2026 jusqu'à l'échéance du contrat.
Everyone will look at this and say 4 years, but the best part about this is that the aav is fine, and the contract is front loaded. This contract also doesn't count as a 35+ contract, so if he decides to retire early there will be no recapture penalty. There's the NMC and the NTC but I don't think there was any concern of us moving him anyways. I like this contract and I'm stoked to have such a great leader and character back on this team.
It doesn't count against the cap if he retires and he's in amazing physical shape
Interesting comment! Kudos on that. This isnt a 35+ contract though. Curious if CAR had just waited for this until closer to the season if that would have changed things.

1) It being a standard contract is better for the team than it being a 35+ contract
2) Even if he signed it after his 35th birthday (September 10), the contract would still be standard. Age counts based on June 30 before the free agent period.
canes fan : haula at 31 years old for 3 years, that wont end well.
staal signing 4 years at 34 for : AMAZING SIGNING.
slight bias maybe.
Slight difference... Staal has better analytics than Haula and is in the top 3% of defensive metrics for forwards. Haula also has a history of being a locker-room problem and Staal is a captain

i wont get into the locker room thing because no one here as a clue but everyone pretends to. i know they are different player with different profile, the only thing i was talking about is age and age is the main factor (outside of injries) in a player declining, not defensive metric. you can tell me how good staal but he is the one most likely to decline fast during his contract compared to haula.

Defensive Forwards tend to decline slower than Offensive forwards or Physical forwards... He's performed as an elite defensive forward for a long time and he's in good enough shape that I don't see that changing in the next couple of years. I also think that the off-ice stuff that Staal brings makes a difference as well. Haula is also in a lot different role than Staal.
whats the difference between a no movement clause and a full no trade clause? is it just that with the nmc he can't get sent down to the minors?
a Full no trade means they can't trade you they can however Waive you (which a team will do if need to get you to waive the NTCbe see Ryan McDonagh). NMC they can't even waive you without your permission all they can do is buy you out
