On paper sure. They may need a year or two for the younger forwards to develop a bit more to get over the hump. The goaltending looks pretty questionable though.

Yes the Parayko contract is so bad.

He's being asked to play 20 minutes a night 5v5 with young forwards who are mistake prone, and doing so at a rate of a 36% ozs. But please continue to spout about his back injuries that he missed time for in 2021. Or the fact that he's consistently gotten worse although he's been paired with Niko Mikkola, Marco Scandella and Nick Leddy in a role that is so defensively heavy that it's typically reserved for guys that play 14-15 minutes ES. But lets also ignore the consistent 30 points a season while doing it with virtually no Powerplay time.

No on both, plus you are giving away ELC's that will help keep are Cap flexible in some ways over the next few years.

Hard to overlook his contract, especially the next 3yrs, he's actually owed 8m in Salary, doesn't even come close to his actual Cap hit for 4yrs.

He is 30 and signed for seven more years. Contract will be fine for next couple years then will be huge anchor on the team. One of the biggest strengths to the sabres future is the players signed long term will still be in prime and cheap. If sabres would take on that contract they will not be giving up anything close to that value.

He is signed until he's 37 yes. He's not an overly physical player and he's a pretty physical specimen. I would venture to guess that contract only looks a little rough when he's 36-37. It's a farcry to expect that he cannot be a contributing player at that age range though. There are plenty of d men who play a similar style that have aged fine, not great but fine. Now lets also figure in the projected cap movement, which certainly isn't gauranteed, but it will be moving upwards. 6.5m at a 92m Cap (Structuring this based off of cap friendlys projections from the timeline of '28-'29. That's right around 7% of the cap. That's not necessarily an "anchor" of a contract.

I'm not trying to convince you or anyone that Buffalo or another team should move heaven and earth to trade for Parayko. But the nonesense that his contract is such a terrible thing is just wildly absurd. Parayko is being played in a role as the league's premier shutdown defender (whether it's justified or not is what it is) in way less than ideal circumstances. The Blues will not pay to dump him, nor should they even remotely consider it. There are much better options on our end if we're going to take a less than ideal return to trade away, not our best defenseman who allows the rest of our group of misfits to be sheltered.

I would never consider those trades if i am GMKA. Quinn will be just as good as Debrincat and you will have him under cost control let alone also throwing in Johnson and a second and Savoie is a HUGE overpay for Parayko whose contract blows.

Sure, Ottawa needs to get a cheaper ready forward and some futures to round it up. We're not going to get anything better than Quinn
