How can we move Jeff Petry

Créé par: Pens3lieve
Équipe: 2023-24 Penguins de Pittsburgh
Date de création initiale: 20 mai 2023
Publié: 20 mai 2023
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Petry alledgedly requested a trade from MTLto be closer to his family… meaning he wants to live in the north eastern US. Meaning cities like Buffalo, Detroit, Chicago, and Columbus could be possible destinations
Not sure if he has any value or even some negative value because of his contract but I wonder if any of those teams would take him off our hands and for what price

I'm not sure we should move Petry. He, like Rutta, is a player on here that really gets misrepresented.

Petry had a slow start last year, no doubt, but he was clearly just having trouble acclimating to a new team/system. He eventually found his footing and settled in, played much better, got injured and came back still playing well. He had a solid 2nd half of the season.

Unless the Pens had a shot at getting a good #2RHD? I see no reason to move on from him.

          Hell no.

People on this board love acting like certain players are these cancerous cap dumps. This is insanity.

Funny thing I had a Petry for Murphy based trade a couple days ago that everyone called insane lol
Caleb Jones is a left shot if I remember and PIT alrdy had po Joseph and Ty smith for the third pair so we wouldn’t need him back…

          So if I countered with

          Murphy, 2023 2nd (NYR)

My thinking is that we have a now-35 year old who is coming off the 2 worst seasons of his career and we’re expecting him to bounce back… he very well could but he only had a few game where i was really impressed

No way. There's nothing about this that makes sense to traded a 16th overall.

He’s a good player, and has put up solid underlying numbers on a lot of bad teams. Last year he struggled, at least statistically speaking in my opinion due to the team around him. He’s a Right Shot top 4 DFD, and those are kind of difficult to find in this league.

          Spitballing here, but

          Chicago Blackhawks
          Petry
          2023 1st round pick (PIT)
2024 2nd (conditional on Caleb Jones scoring X amount of points or it becomes a third)

          Pittsburgh Penguins
          Connor Murphy
          Caleb Jones (RFA)
          2023 2nd round pick NYR.

Kinda generous to the Pens there, no?

I don’t mind being a bit generous here and there. Getting a mid round first in this draft is big for me.

If we have the chance to move Petry I would, but I would not attach picks to get rid of him. Not worth it at that point. Worst case I'm putting him on the third pairing where he could dominate.

When it comes to Petry, Penguin fans should just accept reality that they're stuck with him - his age, injury history and cap situation hold no market appeal around the league. If they want to free up the roster spot, a buyout seems more believable than thinking another team will give up anything for him.

I don't think Petry is a good fit for Buffalo, he will probably struggling in Granato system and he had a bad season.

          Hell no.

People on this board love acting like certain players are these cancerous cap dumps. This is insanity.

I think you are onto something, but they are not splitting up the Jones brothers
