OP is stating if he wasn't the gm, they wouldn't have made that trade for the Habs.

Habs wouldn't have Guhle if the Leafs drafted him at #15 in 2020.

Whether they would have said no is irrelevant.

it really goes to show that most of his moves were good.

some.of these looks bad and its not really.dubas fault tavares moves looks bad because of the covid flat cap.

in the end thats 6 bad move. verdict his still out onsandin but i think they will regret it too
marleau trade was necessary, he dit not sign that dinosaur.

wont blame him too much on a draft pick that got a cancer diagnostic.

ceci's deal was his q.o offer from the sens. keeping zaitsev would have been worse (and not his signing).

The Leafs got Alex Kerfoot and Tyson Barrie with 50% retention.

          Dubas did well there.

          Marchment, Kadri…

Signing Matthews and Marner to unprecedented deals.

Don’t forget about the other picks he threw away at the deadline along with Foligno. He basically traded an entire draft tht deadline for one player the played 4th line center in game 7. The others were all scratches.

Debatable. I'd rather have Kadri than Kerfoot or Barrie NOW in hindsight, but at the time, it might have made a lot more sense.

          1. Tavares is worth 8 million, not 11 million.

          2. Sandin is worth two 1sts and Gustafsson didn't really do much against either Tampa or Florida.

          3. Any trade where you pay a high first just to dump cap is a bad trade.

          4. The Amirov draft pick suggested Dubas was drafting by position instead of BPA, given the Leafs needed a Top 6 LW at the time.

          5. The Leafs were not forced to qualify Ceci.

The Marleau disaster was Lou's doing

How can you forget the trading of 1st,2nd,3rd and 4th for UFAs ROR and Accari

A first and second for two and half years McCabe and year and half of Lafferty. McCabe was dreadful in the playoffs. As suggested just keep Sandin

You mentioned the Amirov pick. I always questioned the pick. LWers are easy to find. The better selections were just after Amirov......Winger Dawson of Jersey and RHD Schneider of Rangers.

The Kadri trade.....well one of the reasons to do the trade was to get the so called needed RHD....and it was Barrie, who proceeded to be the worse Dman on the Leafs that season.

Leafs were taken not the cleaners with the Matthews and Marner signing. No way Matthews show have paid the second highnest cap in the league and only on a five year contract. Same with Marner an overpay of 2.5m, when the Aho comparable was the standard.

Leafs have few NHL prospects and few good draft picks in future years. Dubas/Shanahan and friends have done a poor job. The

no way you said rodian amirov was a bad pick. bro he didn't develop because he has cancer. Also how are the zaitev and Marleau trades bad he was forced into those because of bad signings by Lou

          1. The Habs were picking right after the Leafs at #16 and they got Kaiden Guhle.

And the Amirov pick suggested Dubas was drafting by position instead of BPA because they lacked a Top 6 LW at the time.

          2. Where did I say the Zaitsev trade was bad??

          3. The Marleau trade is bad because Dubas gave up a high first to dump him.

this team is better for sure, but no Kadri?

They got Alex Kerfoot and Tyson Barrie with 50% retention.

          Dubas did well there.

it really goes to show that most of his moves were good.

some.of these looks bad and its not really.dubas fault tavares moves looks bad because of the covid flat cap.

in the end thats 6 bad move. verdict his still out onsandin but i think they will regret it too
marleau trade was necessary, he dit not sign that dinosaur.

wont blame him too much on a draft pick that got a cancer diagnostic.

ceci's deal was his q.o offer from the sens. keeping zaitsev would have been worse (and not his signing).

He was a kid learning on the job. He made unprecedented moves by trading a first (Seth jarvis) with Marleau when teams can go over the cap by 10% in the offseason.

He signed Matthews and Marner to unprecedented deals. They weren’t bridge deals, they weren’t long term deals, they were deals for top dollar that led them straight to UFA. He handcuffed his team for years with the flat cap.

The deadline when he aquired Nick Foligno can only be described as one of the worst in history. He traded a 1st, 3rd, 4th, 4th, 5th, 7th for Nick Foligno, Dave Rittich, Ben Hutton, & Riley Nash. None dressed for the Leafs in the playoffs except Foligno who played 4 games with no goals and 1 assist. He played 4th line center in game 7. Dubas effectively traded an entire draft for a 4th line center with no goals tht left the next year in free agency.

Those are all huge mistakes that were obvious to even casual fans at the time. I’ve often wondered why the Maple Leafs gave the keys to a multi-billion dollar franchise to a kid with ZERO NHL GM experience. He has been effectively learning on the job.

          Muzzin for Grunderson/Durzi/1st

          Ovchinnikov for Puutio/Levi (pick trade)

          Muzzin trade wasn't bad.
Leafs got what they needed, Kings got what they wanted.

The

          1. I'm willing to forgive the Dubas for going out and paying a premium on former Conn Smythe Trophy and Stanley Cup winning Toronto native ROR.

          2. McCabe has term and he came with 50% retention.

          Dubas did a great job.
Mistakes were made. But there were also a bunch of great moves as well.

Levi was drafted 212 overall. Every team pssed on him multiple times because of his size. Chances are if the Leafs kept the pick they would not have even picked Levi. Congrats to Florida for hitting the lottery but even they traded him. Dubs hs done plenty wrong but this wsn’t one of the moves.

The problem I have with this is that Dubas was handed the core of Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, and Reilly. He has not added anything to that core but has subtracted Kadri. He had Anderson as a goalie and downgraded in net. He has traded multiple first round picks to get out of bad deals and for rentals. Those picks could have been used to add core players.

He’s. kid that was gifted the keys to a Ferrari and is learning on the job. He should have added to the core by now but has not. He lost on contracts to Matthews, Marner and Nylander which has handcuffed the organization and caused the loss of players like Hyman. Lucky kid to be handed a core that has matured and cn compete with the best the NHL has to offer.

if MTL did a similar thing they'd have Sergachev and Hughes on the blueline and Oettinger in net.

Amirov was a really good pick. No one could have foreseen the (unfortunate) outcome of him. I actually had amirov 5 spots higher on my draft board that year.

          It was a tongue-in-cheek suggestion.

Hard to really assess these types of things honestly as there are so many other factors.
