I was tempted to dig out one of the old Bratt + 2nd overall for Josh Anderson deals from last summer.

The Dallas and Toronto ones are highway robbery so no idea what's going on there but that's the easiest yeses of all time.

ARI, BUF, CGY, CHI, NYI, OTT are also really good.

ACGM # is listed in each trade

That Dallas trade (funny how it's mine) looks like a massive robbery rn, but to be fair the post was made before this season even begun and Robo was still a RFA. Plus it included Severson.

Realistic, but more than I would expect…
- Arizona (Crouse, 1st, 3rd)
- Buffalo (JJP, 1st)
- Washington (8oa, 2nd, 3rd)

I would not do as Devils fan…
- Montreal (Anderson, 2nd)
- Vancouver (Quinn etc)

I'd be fine with the Ducks one if it had something like top 10 protection on that 1st. Bratt would certainly elevate the ceiling for the team offensively, but the D is still in shambles...I'd predict a bottom 8 finish without substantial upgrades elsewhere on the roster.

Yeah. I like Bratt just fine, but not that much and I also don't see CHI going in that deep on any player any time soon.

Yes but Calgary would need ~8M to fit Bratt so neither works by themselves. I would be more open to something like Toffoli and Tanev

Tanev and Toffoli will be in the wrong side of 32 next year, meaning they are unlikely to be extended like Huberdeau and Weegar were. So two pure rentals for a guy like Bratt would be unwise call. Hanifin, Lindholm, guys in the mid/late 20’s should be on Fitzy’s ask list.

There’s not reason either needs to be a PURE rental. I wouldn’t give either more than a 4 year extension but they should both provide quality hockey, even if the decline should be sharp after year 2 for both.

Plus, if you win a cup next year then it’s worth it haha

There's a big difference between extending for 8 years and extending for 3-5. Toffoli is a very good player and will probably be a solid top 6 2-way winger until he's 34/35. Also he just turned 31 a few weeks ago so he won't be "on the wrong side of 32" until the 2nd round of the playoffs. Tanev is more of a guy on that rental side but he's been the best overall shutdown defenseman over the past 3 years league wide. If Weegar wasn't also top 5 in that department Calgary would never consider moving Tanev

But the point is…NJD wouldn’t be extending either of them. Our window is just about to open. Our GM has spoken often about adding guys around the same age as Hughes and Hischier (mid-to-young-twenties).

Maybe if there was one young (who we could extend or who has term) and one old…but not two old.

You are welcome to your own opinion here but if contract talks stall it's still a pretty good base of a trade. Options become a lot more limited the longer things hold out

There will be plenty of suitors for Bratt. He has had the latest team offer since the trade deadline, so they probably had a good idea if he will return or not. He can start talking to other teams after the draft, so if it looked like he wasn’t up for NJ’s long-term offer, they’d probably ship him off then (when teams still have plenty of cap space). I expect it to look a little like Fiala last year (if he is dealt).

Wouldn’t you prefer this to the Fiala deal though? This roster is probably a cup favorite.
