Description
Draft
#2 Adam Fantilli
#13 Gabe Perrault
#30 Danil But
#33 Michael Hrabal

I know a lot of fans want the Ducks to go from bottom feeders to playoffs but that’s generally not how it works. The free agency isn’t full of a lot of talent the Ducks likely can get so best to take a flyer on some projects and insulating players and see how your team develops until 2024 when the free agency will have names like Matthews on it, also gives players like Pastujov, Gaucher, Mintyukov, Luneau and Fantilli another year to develop.

This defense should be competitive and I’d expect them to place similar to this years Senators.

Some explanations:
I’ve seen so many different people’s valuations of Gibson, I decided to go with the first article I saw projecting Buffalo for a top 10 protected pick and a prospect, just didn’t include a prospect.

Dumba has a rough season so he probably would sign for a short “I’m still good contract” which works for the Ducks blue line development.

Laf sounds like he’s out in NY but who knows what they want for him, I could throw another 2nd in there probably.

If Canes fans don’t think Henrique at 50% retained isn’t worth 30th overall they don’t know Henrique.

Bringing Perry home again hopefully to retire as a Duck.

Players like Boeser and Bailey if they don’t work can be traded at 50% retained at the deadline as rentals.

Campbell is a bit of a gamble as a backup, but I have to just believe he wasn’t ready for starter duty in a difficult situation. If he still stinks, a buyout or a retained trade wouldn’t be the end of the world, worth the first rounder for me.

I see 2024 as a show me season to see if the Ducks can contend for a playoff spot. If not they shed a bunch of cap next season and can grab a big name or two to really push the envelope.

  1. Lafrenière, Alexis [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
I honestly have no idea what the ask is for Laf but in this trade they get 2nd rounder in a very deep draft along with a solid third line center and lottery ticket in Comtois.

Détails additionnels:
Should be enough to sign Bouchard and figure the rest of the roster out. The contract is very bad so it will cost them to get rid of it.
EDM
I think the Ducks could utilize Campbell as semi-competent 1B goalie behind Dostal. And if he has decent stats they can flip him to a team in need of a goalie 1-2 years into his contract.

    Détails additionnels:
Islanders have 6M in cap space this off-season, Bailey sucks for his contract, they’re obviously trying to win now.
    NYI
Ducks utilize some of their cap space in 2024 while acquiring someone who’s a leader and can compete for bottom 6 minutes.

Sabres aren't trading the 13th pick in the draft for Gibson, better add if you want that.

If im ANA im trading down with MTL, SJS or CBJ to take Reinbacher
Way cheaper then Dumba and long term gives you a deep Defense Core like ANA had a few years back before selling high.
Fantilli is great dont get me wrong but with Zegras , Mctavish and Strome he's not needed as much as that RD and you're not giving up skill the players both project as top guys and Starters.

I know MTL would likely give up both their picks though for Fantilli
Simple logic is Dach is great player but as far as Center he plays at a lower pace then at Wing.
If we got Fantilli we could put Dach on Top Line beside Caufield and Suzuki permanently
We could still do that with Smith too but he'll take 2 more years minimum while Fantilli could be ready now.

But thats me speaking to what i know as a MTL Fan.
Im sure CBJ would pay to get Fantilli for sure
I know SJS Sharks would but im not sure you'll trade with a rival

Canes pass. Henrique isn't worth a 1st. You're trying to argue he's worth 30th overall, keep him. He does nothing but eat up cap space in Raleigh

Ducks already have: Drysdale, Luneau, Helleson and Warren. They definitely don’t need an RD prospect and you alway take the BPA when you’re at the bottom of the league. Ducks definitely take Fantilli.

He helps them a ton. The ducks aren’t gonna be competing for a Cup next year another 1st rounder helps the Ducks more than Carolina. Although I would be fine with them keeping him, but he will fetch a first somewhere.

Best player available is Michkov after Bedard though
Contract is the only real reason he's not being talked about more
That and lack of ability to continue to out play Bedard head to head internationally
People forget head to head Michkov dominated Bedard to the point of a u-18 3rd overall Goal Scoring Record behind only Ovechkin and Caufield.
He's as Legit of a goal scorer as we've seen in years in the NHL Draft

Fantilli is good but he's basically Dach 2.0
As much as i love Dach and i do
His established Value after a few years out of the Draft is a mid 1st round pick
He's a hell of a player but the Transition to Center in the NHL based on his lack of Faceoff Skills held him back from hitting his top Projections.
Guess what Fantilli's only real weakness is ? Faceoffs
We moved Dach to Wing and not only did he have career best number but Caufield saw a big boost as did Suzuki

He may be a top line player 100%
It just in all likelihood wont be in ANA IMO
In the end you'll have passed on Michkov for a lesser winger
You'll still have an Elite player though so i guess its worth the gamble that Fantilli will learn to take faceoffs eventually unlike Dach who still struggles hard there.

I think that you're too optimistic on the returns our players are going to bring. For example(s), Rangers aren't going to give up on LaFreniere for that package, Edmonton won't pay a first to get rid of Campbell (never mind all that other stuff), having given up their 2023 first the Islanders aren't going to give up their 2023 second to get rid of Bailey, and now that Devon Levi is in the fold and that 39th overall pick is staring them in the face (at least two of Bjarnason, Hrabal and Augustine will still be on the board there), I don't think that a team is going to spend the 13th overall pick on John, especially one as impecunious as Buffalo.

I’ve seen Lafreniere trades where he’s traded straight up for a second so I don’t think I’m far off on that one.

Oilers would definitely give up a first for 4M in cap space over 4 years. They have 2M in cap space in 2024 and they need to resign Bouchard this season, thats going to be a low first. Carolina got a 1st for one year of Marleau 4 years of Campbell is easily a 1st.

Lou seems to not care about picks at all, and 5M more space for them is a necessity, they’re in a desperate situation to compete.

Buffalo can’t wait for Levi or another goalie to be ready they need one now, while they’re primed to compete, hence why I think that Gibson trade works on some level, maybe with minor tweaks.

Unless Drury is offered an offer he can't refuse.

This package is probably one of the more realistic offers I've seen for LaF...but still not enough to move Drury. I'm not sure how the draft tiers shake out nor do I know who the Rangers really covet in this draft. But maybe if there is a player out there they really want -but would need better than the BOS 2nd to get- maybe Drury warms up to this type deal if the pick in this deal is higher than the #60 OA it will be.

Unless Drury is offered an offer he can't refuse.

I agree but remember the Rangers still have their own first which should fall somewhere between 22-24 depending on the rest of the playoffs

Fantilli is leagues ahead of where Dach was at the draft. He’s going to be Eichel or better. But I do agree that they should take Michkov instead, I just don’t think they would.
