I think Edmonton declines. Yamamoto is a year removed from putting up Raddysh like numbers with a better +/-. Would you trade Raddysh and a 5th for Blackwell and a 4th?

The issue with putting these together is the need to be realistic and I think you missed the mark. There's a reason I haven't attempted one myself. I'm sure my expectations wouldn't be realistic in some folks minds either.

I don't think Ottawa would do that solely for the purpose of Cap Hit. Brannstrom holds a decent value at a low cost and Ottawa not has a decent D-Core with Zub, Sanderson, Chabot, Chychrun, JBD, Brannstrom and Kleven.

Better ways to spend 10m on UFA than those three guys. And sign players who actual wants to be Hawks instead of just $$$$

not really..... The buyout is super cheap. It seems that OP actually intends to use granlund as a top six center anyways so maybe they could work out a more reasonable trade. Zaitsev for Granlund straight up?

The only one of these trades the Hawks might make is the Blaxkwell deal. Hawks don't get enough back in Murphy and Granlund deals. They aren't giving up picks for Pool Party or Yamo.

I can’t see the Canes moving on from Puljujarvi just yet, especially after spending the better part of a year just trying to acquire him. Not every deadline acquisition fits in immediately offensively, but defensively the transition has been seamless. Worst case scenario he is a Fast replacement, and that isn’t the worst thing in the world.

Yams was only 0.04 PPG behind Raddysh this season too. Sucks that Kailer got 3.1 mill in arbitration and then had a season with multiple injuries after. I think another team will get a steal of a deal if he has to be traded.
I've been thinking Yamamoto for Raddysh with the Oilers adding a mid to late pick or a B/C level prospect?

I'm not seeing any of those happening.

Murphy pieces are not what the Hawks will want. Hawks are bursting at the seems with LHD prospects and Brannstrom would be of little interest even if he does play some RD) as about to turn 24, undersized and has not shown much more than being a bottom pairing guy that can maybe chip in on the PP. Which leaves a mid 2nd as the only piece of interest which won't be enough. Hawks will retain and add a piece to replicate the 1st and 2nd they got for McCabe before getting pieces they don;t like.

Granlund is owed 11 million and produced at a 20 point over a full season pace for the 1/4er of a season in Pitts after the deadline deal. I would rather see the Hawks pay Domi or Drouin (for 1 year) 4 million than make that commitment for 2 years of Granlund. I think there are similar 2nd round picks available where you only take on 1 year like Bailey (NYI) or Mantha (Was). I get you are gambling on Granlund bouncing back in production (and he probably does as someone has to play PP in Chicago) and he is then sort of worth his caphit, but why take that gamble for the Hawk?

Poolparty as a RFA is just flushing a draft pick down the toilet....unless you plan on qualifying based on his 3 million current salary or going to arbitration with him. At some point where he got drafted and what he as actually done in hockey at quickly approaching 25 does not warrant 3 million a year.

I don't see Edmonton giving up on Yamamoto for a 4th (even a high one) and the Hawks probably should not be spending draft capital on mid 20's guys that won't be around when we get better enough for it to matter.

Yeah, Ottawa doesn't need Murphy anymore

And I wouldn't swap Brannstrom for him who was nothing short of excellent in his 23 y/o season. He's young, cheap, excellent defensively (except in front of the net due to size) and has untapped offensive potential

Decent? That group has extremely high potential... Would need NHL coaching and management who understands what is 2-way hockey though

This is the outsider/have no idea view

Brannstrom value has been trending up all season

The highlight below doesn't show all he can do but he did coast to coast many times this season. His transition game is impressive

We can just buy him out for 800k this year and 1.6 next year. Why would we give up a 2nd? Seems like a better option to just waive him and keep the 2nd.

Straight up? no. That would certainly reduce the cost, but Granlund has a slightly higher cap hit, an extra year more than Zaitsev on his contract, and substantially more actual salary owed. The only value CHI gets out of it is his cap hit helping us to the salary floor. But their cap hits are so similar that it would pretty much be a wash. We also have limited roster space. So if there is another offer from the Isles for instance, to dump Bailey for a 2nd round pick, that move would both brings in assets to our rebuild AND help us get to the cap floor. So why would CHI, a team that will probably be tanking again, is rebuiding, and needs to hit the cap floor, do an even swap when they can address more issues trading with another team? But, that definitely isn't a bad idea if you can find a team to do it.

Well, first off, no. His buyout cap hit would be $800k next year and then $1.8M for 3 years after that. Only slightly different but still important. Also, even with a buyout, he is still owed just under $7.5M. That is a decent savings but it still a lot of money that I'm sure ownership would rather not pay. Especially, since it seems they don't want to and essentially cannot do a rebuild, and would rather spend assets on players that can help them right now. In this instance, they are paying to create cap space so that they can sign free agents that can help them "win now". IF PIT can stomach that buyout cap hit over the next four years and don't mind spending the actual cost of buying him out, then yeah, that is probably the best option for them. But with the cap only going up $1M, I think they will want to create every little bit of cap space they can and conserve money after the revenue they lost from missing the playoffs for the first time in 16 years.

My mistake. I didn't realize it would span 4 years, I thought (and wish lol) it was only 2.

No worries. It's not like I know this stuff by heart or something. I just used the buyout calculator. haha. But yeah, he is expensive any way you slice it. Lots of teams are up against the cap and still want to be competitive, teams like CHI should be taking advantage of those things. That is the whole point of "weaponizing cap space". We'll see how everything ACTUALLY shakes out, though. I kind of doubt Davidson would be so cut throat to push for any more than a 2nd, he just doesn't seem like the type, but, personally, I'd be pushing for 1st round picks and packaging other assets to sweeten deals and get it done. If the bottom feeder teams want to impose their will on top teams, this is how they should be doing it, especially CHI who is currently a bottom feeder but are actually wealthy and willing to spend.
