Nah man you gotta understand; he's more expensive than he was when they traded for him because he got worse and needs to get paid more.

So, let's get this right.

Last year, with a contract and after a 40 goal year, Cat got the 7th overall pick, a second and a third. Now, after a down year and no contract in place - you think Detroit will give up the 9th overall pick, a top 6 winger they just signed, a very good rookie they've drafted and developed AND a top 10 second rounder?

Plus, 9oa in 2023 is likely the same or better than 7oa in 2022...

to be fair, it's likely going to be #9 & #41 as opposed to #7/#39, but adding in Berggren and Perron is a bit much. If Berggren comes over, the 2nd becomes a lesser pick. and if there's cap going back it's wayyyy more likely to be someone like Robby Fabbri than Perron, imo.

Intermediate party here, that is a little rich for Debrincat after the season he’s had, and he is refusing to sign in OTT so that gives him less power, I think that if you downgrade the 1st to the NYI pick (~17OA) and drop Berggren you’ll be looking a little closer. Don’t forget, when they acquire him he is at risk for an offer sheet and that’s going to be late picks, so keep that in mind

7OA in last year's draft (Korchinski) had a very similar statline to Dragicevic (proj. late 1st). This year's draft is much better than last years.

I would say that the Islanders pick this year is close to #7-#10 last year.

For sure. The only top 5 prospect from that draft that holds a candle to the top 5 is Logan Cooley. This draft is absolutely bonkers.

Yeah Detroit arguably passes, if Cat wants to come home in 2024. We can just sign him for free. And not give up any assets for him.

The absolute max I would do is the isles pick, a mid round pick, and one of our B level LD prospects. Cause like some other people said if he really wants to come here he could just sign in 2024

Zero chance in hell that Detroit's 9th overall pick is in play for Alex DeBrincat. Islanders 18th pick Vancouvers 43rd pick and Perron is the best you're going to get.

yes Cat is worth more than OTT paid for him last year as EVERYONE, including the aliens on mars said OTT fleeced CHI when they traded Cat, also if DET wants to trade for him it will cost a lot more since DET is a DIVISIONAL Rival in a similar position as OTT, if DET wants Cat they are going to have to overpay+++

Yeah Detroit isn't paying more for one x $9,000,000 of DeBrincat. No way are we paying more than what Ottawa paid for two years of DeBrincat not one.

Pretty sure you meant we're not going to get Cat, But since it's up to Cat where he ultimately plays long term, I like our odds quite a bit.

if Yzerman trades for him I would think he wants him longer term & if he really wants to play in Detroit he will be reasonable in his AAV ask.
GMs need to smarten up and stop giving out backend loaded contracts. Meier and ADB QO are ridiculous.
I also do not believe in 8 year term contracts, it’s a coin flip if you get value in the long run. There are several teams against the cap because they are carrying deals that are dead weight. NMC should also only be given to superstars and older players.
