Unpopular opinion move Quinn

Équipe: 2023-24 Canucks de Vancouver
Date de création initiale: 7 avr. 2023
Publié: 7 avr. 2023

Description
Elias 8 x $10MM
I know a lot of folks won't agree with me, but IMO Q Hughes isn't a top Dman in the league.
Therefore, I'm curious to see what people think of this, and if this is enough coming back for him.

Drysdale is out of the question, he is untouchable, Fowler only has a 4 team trade list, so it's incredibly unlikely he is willing to go, and while Quinn is amazing offensively, we don't have the defensive partner to allow him to operate. We decline.

Quinn is the best player in that trade by a good margin and the Ducks still get worse by making that trade. Going 2 for 1 does nothing but create yet another hole on defense, the Ducks go from having 2 top-4 guys to having 1.

Not the right team. You would need to find a team that has sound defensive guys to play with him, the cap space and the expendable assets to trade for him.

Quinn is paid 20th among NHL Dman...which seems like a bargain to me. Almost a point a game, and plus player on poor team.
Fowler isn't waiving so the trade proposed is kinda meaningless.

Ahhh yes the tired old narrative that Quinn is bad defensively. Watch him play and check the stats, he's very solid defensively.

As for OP, I'm going to also assume as a habs fan out east that you don't watch the Canucks play either. Quinn Hughes is arguably the most underrated player in the game right now. He's second in the league for points by a dman, 3rd in points per game, and has been very strong defensively all season long which includes killing penalties. He's got a CF% of 58, xG% of 56, HDGF% of 59.

I 100% agree that the Canucks should move Quinn before they realize who he really is but I doubt the ducks will move Drysdale

His defensive game has improved as well. It would be stupid for Anaheim to decline this trade. We are getting fleeced and it's by a longshot.

I never said he was bad defensively, you just made that up. I just said he should go to a team with sound defensive guys. That would allow him to provide more offence. I think of a team like Carolina and partnering him with Pesce. He would really be able to flourish in an atmosphere like that.

I don't know how much more offense you're gonna get out of him. He's already a point per game dman on a brutal d core. Of course pairing him with one of the best defensive dmen in the league would be nice.

Anyone can be moved if its for the right price, so its not an unpopular opinion to want to try to improve the team. The players you are trading him for is the unpopular opinion here.

If they moved Quinn (they won’t), teams I could see bidding: DET, LAK, CBJ, MIN, STL

And this deal would be taking our only RHD for next season, and Anaheim has multiple excellent LHD in the pipeline. Maybe not Hughes caliber guys, but very good none the less. We can't afford to loose Dysdale at this stage, and Fowler can shoot this deal down himself. So yeah, we decline, we're not the right team for Hughes.

Don't need to. His defense has been fantastic this year. Breaking records playing alongside AHL defenders

Realize who he is? You mean a current point per game d man who is becoming very good defensively? Why should the Canucks be so eager to throw such a player out?

He is flourishing playing alongside AHL defenders so that argument doesn't exactly work

Probably too good for people here would like. I don't know why it seems like people are afraid of the fact that maybe Quinn Hughes is actually an elite player. Instead people keep trying to find ways to paint an ugly picture for him and make horrendous takes that are like 3 years outdated. Anybody who says Hughes can't hold his own defensively hasn't watched any games or looked at any of the stats this year. It would be nice if he got a good d partner, but he has shown to be just fine even with AHL players

I agree, elite player in my books and I doubted him at the start of the season. You pair him with a really solid partner and you have a top 5 pairing in the league.
