With the Toews announcement today that he will not be traded this season and so many teams looking to upgrade their 2C position this increases the value of Monahan exponentially since he is now the best FA middle 6 center on the market.

Is he? Domi is putting up better numbers in Chicago and doesn't have any of the injury worries. He's a much better target than Monahan.

Should be Mo-NO-Han where the Avs are concerned and in no way is he worth a first any other year let alone this one. Then you want the Avs to add their only G prospect of note to help your abysmal situation. Not likely! SM is not even close to being the best FA middle 6 centre. I'd much rather Domi for one and if COL target one it doesn't even have to be a free agent.

Monahan has yet to even return from his injury. St Louis said he recover had plateau'd. that is not an encouraging statement about him

He didnt just become the hottest trade commodity, he still has major question marks if hes going to return anytime soon and if he does at what level of play will be resuming at

Teams are not going to over pay blindly on him until he returns. His value is very low until he comes back, and the clock is ticking if he is able to play 1 game before the deadline

That isn't how value works - Monahan is what he is and has his own value; what he is is an oft-injured player that hasn't been good for years. Don't tell about his 17 points in 25 games this season - that's a small sample size nobody in their right mind is trading a 1st or even a good prospect for. You got a 1st for taking him on, you aren't getting another one for someone to take him on, retention or not.

You never heard of the law of supply and demand? Of course when supply is down and demand is up players values fluctuate accordingly. There is 1 good 2C option available on the market (Monahan) and 3-5 teams will be competing to acquire his services. Hughes has set his price and can now hold out and wait for someone to match it, so many teams are already filling their holes and the best players are already gone. The Avs are being left behind quickly cause Sakic missed out on ROR and Horvat, if they miss out on Monahan and Domi they will be a first round exit or team on the wrong side of the cut off for sure. Guess we will find out in the next 2 weeks if the Avs and Sakic have the balls to make moves or if they are just another 1 and done cup team.

Once again, not happening. I know you don’t like to listen to other teams fans saying the value is off so here’s a quote from the Habs own beat writer today:

Quoting: Arpon
Adding a third first-round pick is really not happening

Blues GM Doug Armstrong rather bluntly stated the extent to which the market is unwilling to part with first-round picks in this draft. When a player like O’Reilly is generating limited interest because of the 2023 first-round pick cost, the Canadiens have basically no hope of getting one, even if Monahan were healthy and performing.

another 1 and done cup team? Dude just give your head a shake and no need to try to troll with nonsense statements like that. How many repeat cup champs have there been in the last 20 years. You are trying to act ike it's embarrassing if a team doesnt repeat. Pretty big statements from a franchise who hasn't won a cup in almost 30 years.

How on earth do you know the avs missed out on any of those guys. And Sakic is not the GM anymore, it's MacFarland. Get the facts straight first.

We will see, but you know it doesn't even have to be a 1st rounder in this draft right it could be a 2024 1st, a 2023 1st with conditions or a former 1st rounder. Also doesn't have to be the Avs that pay the price just like using them for the amount of comments you guys return. What can I say I like hearing "so and so won't return a 1st" just to watch those same fans say "it was an overpay and never should have happened" yet it does literally every year, see Chiarot!

Nope. He's injured, has a lengthy injury history and hasn't been good for years. Avs were never going to trade for Horvat or O'Reilly so that is irrelevant. Just because the Avs don't make some wild trade this year doesn't mean their core isn't still strong and capable of winning more Cups. Try to get your 1st for Monahan from some other team.

Avs just lost Makar to potentially a concussion which is likely long-term. Think without Makar and a real 2C the Avs even have a snowballs chance in hell of making the playoffs?! I don't.

dude STOP TROLLING, you dont know If makar is out long term, Nor do you know he is out with a concussion, nothing has been confirmed why he missed todays game beyond an upper body injury

STOP IT. dont start fabricating narratives to try to justify your trade idea.

You’re better off using another team for unrealistic proposals then. Every Avs post you’ve made gets met with a parade of every Avs poster here saying no in a variety of different ways. It’s tiring.

I love comments like:

1.'there is 1 good 2c option available on the market (Monahan)' Firstly he's not a 'good' 2C option, at this particular moment he's not even an option, he's injured. Secondly, how do you know how many 2C options are available on the market? Did every team come and tell you? It's a blanket statement that doesn't hold water.
2. 'Think without Makar and a real 2C the Avs even have a snowballs chance in hell of making the playoffs?!' Again, SM isn't a 'real 2C', at present he isn't even playing, he's injured and when he's fit it's debatable as to whether he's a 2C at all. That's before we get to the whole question of whether Makar is injured long term or not, and the fact that the Avs core as it stands is more than capable of making the playoffs and currently stands 3rd in their division with games in hand on the team in 2nd.
3. Chiarot, who cares if he returned a first or not? He wasn't worth it, we all said he wasn't worth it, and we were all proven right. The fact the Habs got one for him is a case of 'Bully for them!' What you'll also find is that GM's are going to be even less likely to hand out a first for guys exactly because....Chiarot! It's even less likely in a deep draft year.

As Coga said.....STOP IT. dont start fabricating narratives to try to justify your trade idea.

You probably don't want me to be commenting on defensive metrics for a Habs player. It's not exactly the teams strong suit. The numbers aren't good for either one of these guys.
