Theoretically speaking, yes it's an overpayment. On the other hand the overpayment can be used by MTL as an argument to support the attractiveness of the trade for SJS, especially if the player selected at 4OA will have a material impact on the franchise for the next 10+ years.

As you see it has 4th at 100 points, 5th at 90 points and pick number 52 is 10 points. Therefore using this table you have an approximate value of 5th + 52 for 4th, so it only takes a late 2nd round pick to move up 1 spot. Now looking at this table we can also see that to move up to 3rd the approximate value is 30 points or the 32 + 52 pick. Having said all this, the issue is really more about convincing those teams to move back than about the actual value of the pick.</div></div>

His injury was a thing of the past in the first third of the season. There were question marks at the beginning of the season and that's why CGY paid us a 1st as he was then considered as a cap dumb to create room for Kadri. An experienced and productive center would have returned a 1st at the TDL. And then injuries came back haunting him.

I seriously don't know and honestly the only thing that I now care about is to see him play in regular season before we trade for him. Hope that trade doesn't occur during the summer and honestly I'm starting to wonder if we shouldn't wait until he becomes UFA on July 1st 2024.

If you're in a 'reset of the fly' instead of a complete rebuild you'd be better off getting a player like Josh Anderson who's signed for another 4 years and who's a playoffs beast. He was instrumental during our 2021 playoffs run.

I don't think he's worth a 1st -- maybe a late 1st or early 2nd. But not much more. He's too risky.

The guy has talent but what about his attitude? Drafted by CLB but there were issues in Columbus. Traded to WIN and issues again in Winnipeg. He was lazy during the playoffs. That raises yellow-ish / orange-ish / almost red-ish flags.

Again, sorry to burst your bubble but your asset has issues despite his talent and if the solution for him is to play for Montreal, you might not be a price maker in that trade.
