Description
Klingberg helps NYI on the PP, we retain 50% and take on Mayfield to make the $ work. Hes been getting better as the season has gone along and NYI can insulate him better than ANA's horrible blueline.
Henrique gives CAR help down the middle and on the PP, not a full Patches replacement but good and we retain like 30%.
Kulikov gives PIT some help on D.
Grant is a serviceable depth guy. Not sure CGY needs him, but figure someone may part with a 4th for him.

Grant might get you a 7th, if that.

Kulikov isn’t worth a 3rd either, maybe a 4th or 5th if he’s 50% retained

-I haven't seen anything from Klingberg that would make me think he's worth a 1st round pick, even retained down to $3.5M. For an offensive RHD, he's barely outscored the guy the Isles would be trading away at 5v5 (Klingberg is 6-10-16 at ES; Mayfield is 5-9-14.) And if the Isles were looking for a PP QB, I don't know why they'd target a guy with 4 PP points in 45 GP despite getting 2:11 of power play time every night. I think the price is extraordinary for his production, and I also think the fit is awful - Klingberg hasn't shown that you should put him on PP1 over Noah Dobson this year, and being one of the top D on a team that is on pace to be the worst defensive team of the cap era doesn't make me feel too great about bringing him in, much less giving up a future 1st rounder & a very strong defensive Dman in Mayfield.

-I think you gotta go full 50% on Henrique's retention to get the '23 1st; I wonder if Carolina is the best fit for Rico. I think there's something to build on here.

-Kulikov & Grant trades are probably close to fair value (I'd peg those guys at 4th & 5th round picks in a trade, respectively) and I'd say we probably don't know exactly where either one is going yet - both of these guys are decent enough to be able to slide in on probably a half-dozen contenders. I'd use my last retention slot on getting Kulikov down to $1.1M and open up his market a little more, but that's just me.

Klingberg isn't getting a 1st round pick, You'd be lucky to get a 2nd and B level prospect for him.

And if the Islanders move Mayfield, it's too a contender. Not a team that's on the Connor Bedard sweepstakes watch.

I hate to admit it -- not because it's you, but because it's true -- but I think that you're right on both counts.

At the very best, having traded away their 2023 first, the Isles probably won't trade away their 2024, but we'd take it, and we'd have to add something like our 2023 third (say, pick 67).

Maybe if they were interested in Kulikov and it cames as a package, but doubt they would send a 1st for Rico alone.

Henrique is kind of in a funny spot with 1 more year on his contract, at least for the Canes initiative. He's not really a rental. Canes would like to grab a top-6 with term or 'control', but their depth moves would just be rentals. So it's a square peg in a round hole for us. That may very well fit for some organizations, but that is the lay of the land for the Canes I think.

You seem to be implying that Henrique is a depth piece and not a top 6 player. While I don't think he muscles someone out of a first line roster spot, he is certainly capable of holding a 2nd line spot and being able to play up on the first when needed, or down on the third as necessary. He's not Pacioretty, but he is a damn good player.

No, understand me. I did not want to classify him as top-6 or depth. Did not comment on his ability. At all. Just acknowledged that he fits in between our likely targets. I was describing our targets for clarification. At the risk of repeating myself, I know the Canes would like to target a top-6 'with term' or term control. The other pieces would be purely rental. So, someone like Meier, an RFA, whom I believe to be a target that they can extend 7-8. And maybe a depth forward and depth D as pure rentals. Not slighting on Henrique.

Saw a few rumors saying Isles could use a PP D, so thats why I threw it out there. I think the 1st comes down to draft position though. I dont think he brings back a high 1st, but a low 1st or high 2nd I dont think is out of the question depending on need and market.

Klingberg was put in a bad spot in Anaheim. The blueline is the worst we've seen in years and Klingberg was just trying to do too much and getting exposed. He was protected in DAL and NYI seems to have a D that could do the same for him, and let him do his thing without feeling like he has to do too much. That said, you arent wrong either, hes certainly only hurt his trade value. In the past month though hes been able to simplify his game and has been much improved.

Henrique gets a bad rap, and I dont know why. Hes been one of our most solid and trustworthy guys for years now. Hes not flashy but hes a top 6 that can play down the middle or the wing. With CAR being down Patches, I figured it wasnt a bad spot for him. Not a 1-for-1 replacement but he adds value and leadership. Anaheim should be willing to eat more salary if they need to.

You are probably right for Kulikov and Grant, but my asking price starts at 3rd/4th rounders and see where the market takes you.

This doesn’t make any sense.
1 - Mayfield is worth more than Klingberg
2 - Klingberg wouldn’t even play PP1
3 - the isles already have a RHD who’s very good offensively but struggles defensively
4 - even without mayfield going back the package is still too much as I doubt Klingberg gets a 1st
A Klingberg-NYI fit makes no sense whatsoever.
