I would move the 2nd for Boeser… that’s about as far as I would go until he learns how to play defense again though

That's just based off of rumours, idk how Holtz has been progressing and Johnsson is a pure cap dump... Boeser is still producing at a 60 point pace and would only cost $4.3M per

I would trade him for a 2nd without retention

There are also reports that the Canucks would need to retain just to get anything for him. Swings both ways, but no way are you getting a top prospect in any shape or form for him.

How about Boeser (no retention) for Johnsson and a 2nd?

Pacing for 60 points, but his defense is atrocious enough that he doesn’t provide a positive impact overall on the ice.
Not saying he’s a negative trade value, but trading him now would be selling low

I think that's plausible, but probably one checked out after Meier and maybe 1-2 other options.

Really don't want JT Miller anywhere near the CBJ. He just seems like an issue and their room has good vibes. Also being tied to him until 2030 just seems like such a terrible situation to choose to be in.

Also I'd rather they keep Ceulemans in the system and develop him in the AHL for a couple years. Would be nice to have another RD building for when Gudbranson's contract is more buyout friendly and if Peeke, Blankenburg and Boqvist don't work out long term.

How is Thatcher Demko going to prove in 12 games that he's worth significant assets?

This team won’t be competing for the next 5 years so why hang on to him? He will stop the team bottoming out and could return future assets

There isn't a player on this roster other than Peterson amd Hughes that you don't get value for..... it's been that big a tire fire.

Frankly, I am of the school.of thought that a 2nd and a decent prospect is fair value for Boeser. @AusCanuck is correct in his assertion that he his pacing a 60 point campaign..... and offense is offense. Where is overall style may not suit some systems, a team defensively sound enough could look at Boeser as an option absorbing a deficiency..... will that lead to an improved goal differential? Is so, that usually means more wins.

Looking at a player in a microcosm, although useful, doesn't always mean it won't work in a weird way. The Canucks have been a middling team since Boeser hit the scene. Bad teams generally produce bad individual results. Can we all say Linus Ullmark? (Sorry Sabres fans, but......)

I am no Canucks fan, but this thought process of Boeser getting just a 2nd, even with retention is ridiculous. He has his shortcomings, and will not get a Horvat haul, but, he gets something of some value.

Columbus declines, as Miller won't have that type of value as high as he did last season.

Brock Boeser is bad enough on defense that he contributes more to the other team than his own. Ignoring it doesn’t make it untrue. Paying a 2nd is paying for potential that he can be a positive player once again

Who said I was ignoring it?

I am saying it depends on the team. A string defensive team Inl say makes the move to drive offense. The team as a whole masks the deficiency. The question is does Boeser on a club likely improve goal differential?

2 years ago everyone saw Nylander as defensive liability, yet saw what he could do to help offensively. Any deal involving the then 60 point winger generally was either for a top 4 D, or a solid prospect and a pick, because it was felt he would improve the offensive game more than hurt it defensively.

I don't think that thinking changes that much.

Boeser as a Devil? I don't see that at all. No need for it either.

Boeser as a Jet? Playing with Wheeler and Dubois.... that has possibilities as the line as a whole is defensively pretty damn good. (Note: not saying that would happen)

You don't have to like the player (hell, I am not tye biggest fan either), but for $4-5 million for two years I still say he can get a good prospect and a 2nd.

They aren't selling the team though. They are trying another retool. Demko is one of five elite goalies the canucks have produced in their history, if you trade him hes just another thing that will need to be replaced. 2-3 years tops is when their hoping to contend. Only way you trade him is if he wants out which there have been rumors of but nothing official.

Maybe if Miller was at 50% retention we'd consider that. As is, nope. We didn't want to sign him to that contract when he came on the block earlier and we don't want to take it on now.
