So the wings and Blues aren't going anywhere this year and these guys are both pending UFA's so i'm not sure why they would turn down offers for these guys. Bertuzzi has 5 pts in 17 games so is he really a top 6? I might have him slotted there because i'm hoping to add him for less, which i said in my post, but that doesnt mean hes top 6 level still. Barbashev is having an ok season but not like last year. Could i pay more for each? Sure but how much more? How off do you think i am?

A 23 year old career AHLer and a lousy 5th round pick doesn't get Tyler Bertuzzi at 50% retained to a divisional foe like Toronto. This is the worst Bertuzzi trade yet

Is Steeves really a "career" AHLer if he's only in his 2nd AHL season? 81pts in 100 GP. AT 22 Bertuzzi had played 127 AHL games so was he a career AHLer?

Barbashev will return a B-prospect + the 2024 2nd. Similar to what Colorado paid for Lehkonen.

Bertuzzi's value in the toilet right now. He's had a very inconsistent season due to injuries but his track record shows that he's a 30 goal scorer and capable of putting up

No comparison, Bertuzzi came into the league at age 21. Already spent 3 seasons in GR from the time he was drafted in 2013. Steeves is already 23 and in his 2nd season in the AHL. Yeah that's pretty much telling me that he's a career AHLer.

I'm not a big fan of either player for a rental, but those offers are way to low for Wings and Blues to consider

I don’t think the two are related. You either re-sign Barbashev (btw, player has to agree to re-sign) or you trade him. You may ask for better return, but it’s not like “we tried to trade you but didn’t like the offers so here’s a contract “

Bertuzzi was drafted in ‘13 out of major junior and played parts of 3 seasons in the ahl. He also joined a wings team that was - well terrible.
Steeves went to university and was signed as a FA in ‘21; he’s spent 2 years in ahl and is putting up decent numbers. Leafs are a lot better team than the wings were in 2018-19.

Not saying Steeves is equivalent to bertuzxi but he’s not a terrible prospect, I’d rank him squarely in middle tier. Projects as bottom 6 player.
I agree the offer is too low; Bertuzzi is worth a 2nd imo or 3rd + Steeves.
There’s no inter divisional concern because:
1/ wings aren’t making the playoffs this year, so who cares where they trade him
2/ Bertuzzi is a FA; very doubtful Leafs can extend him so he won’t come back to haunt them next year or year after

Sure but I'd rather try and resign him than do that trade. I also think we can get more for him than what you are offering. I'd also rather have picks than meh AHL players
