There are just too many moving pieces in this deal. 2 teams are turning over a huge chunk of their roster and not getting any better.
Too unrealistic.

Ceci, Klingberg, and Nurse anchoring a top 4 D In front of Ilya Samsonov!. What could possibly go wrong?

He's not trading Klingberg to San Jose.
The whole idea of this particular armchair GM was to show what the Leafs should've done the in the offseason and he's saying Klingberg should not have been signed in the first place.

How is that easily beat?? A 1st and 3rd is a genuinely good offer for a pending UFA top 4 D.

For example: Josh Manson returned a 2nd + prospect. David Savard returned a 1st. Both were pending UFAs at the time.

I'm sure some other team may bid higher, but what do you genuinely expect for Chris Tanev or a pending UFA top 4 defensive dman in general??

If that's the starting point, I'd offer a roster player, change the 2nd into another 1st and go after Saros who is an established Vezina-caliber goalie.

Why would you go out of your way to spend assets on a goalie you claim to be worse than Campbell when he has a higher cap hit with the same amount of term?

Bertuzzi has a NMC and Edmonton can't afford that anyway.

Chicago has no use for Domi, there's a reason why they traded him in the first place.

As underwhelming as Klingberg can be defensively, he does provide flexibility on the PP.
Without Liljegren and Timmins, we're short on offensive D-men. We can't just rely on Rielly to do everything offensively on the back-end.

IMO, Shane Pinto's value should be comparable to what Carolina paid for to offersheet Jesperi Kotkaniemi.

With 2 1sts in value, you can add a bit more and get someone like Travis Konecny who is a PPG player.
One full season of Pinto doesn't justify to be worth 2 1sts regardless of his potential ceiling.

Leafs aren't giving up a 1st for a depth D as the main piece.
A 1st is worth a reliable top 4D like Tanev, DeMelo etc.

Necas is a 70pt+ winger, they're not giving him up for spare parts.
The only enticing piece is Askarov. But, why would Carolina need him?
They're in win-now mode with Anderson, Raanta, and Kochetkov.
Kochetkov is their goalie of the future. Askarov would be the #4G on the depth chart.

Fabbro is basically another Liljegren. We don't need another one at almost double the cost.
The team is in need of a defensive defenseman.

And trading our best one is not in TOR's best interest.

If we're giving up a 1st for Peeke, the trade should be similar to what we offered for McCabe.
Needs to be mid round picks coming back maybe 2 4ths or 2 5ths.
A 7th doesn't do any justice.
On top of that a serviceable 3rd/4th line player.

But if I were TOR, I'd trade a 1st for a veteran top 4 defensive defenseman like (i.e Tanev, DeMelo)

That's basically Brannstrom, 1st, 4th for Murphy and Raddysh. Not enough.

Bad for both teams.

Arizona is in the midst of a rebuild. They value their picks highly. Jarnkrok and Brodie will not help their rebuild one bit.

Toronto is in dire need of defensive defenseman and you offload their best one.
On top of that acquiring picks and a top 6 player they don't need.
The Leafs can't afford $5M of Zucker to play on the 3rd line, that's poor cap and asset management.

What exactly has Harris done to prove he's been better than Hague in the 75 career games he's played?
They're both 3rd line LD but Hague plays both 2nd line PP and PK. Harris isn't a factor on special teams.
Hague has a ring and contributed to Vegas's championship run.

Harris is younger but Hague has definitely contributed more so far.

In the CBJ trade, Boqvist and Liljegren kinda cancel each other out. I wouldn't do Jenner and Peeke for Nylander.
Not sure how trading for a pending UFA in Nylander would help a rebuilding team anyway.

NSH has a huge logjam at RD, they really don't need Timmins. (Barrie, Schenn, Carrier, Fabbro)

Dumoulin is a 3rd pairing defenseman at this point in his career.
No team would give up a 1st, and certainly not the Leafs.

Take out the 3rd, 4th going to TOR and the 1st going to SEA. Switch it with a 3rd going to SEA.

If I'm giving up a 1st for a defenseman, I'd want Larsson or Tanev.
