I have been told that I am undervaluing Meier significantly... so tell me what his value is if the sharks allow the Jets to get a contract worked out before and 50% retention.

I imagine Meier would get something similar to what Fiala and Debrincat got

My best guess would be something like a 1-2 and a prospect like brad lambert or similar

Something around the fiala and debrincat return. I’m totally open to moving a 1st and lambert. But if they allow for contract negotiations prior to the trade I’m sure it costs the jets more than that. Maybe add another solid prospect and a mid pick.

The Sharks need high end young talent more than anything. I expect the centerpiece for any Meier trade to be a top 10 pick or an A+ prospect. Lots of teams would love to add Meier so your package needs to be competitive. Your late 1st or A- to B+ prospects as a centerpiece will certainly get out bid.

The Sharks passed on Lambert at the draft. I don’t expect they value him very highly.

Someone reported that it was going to come in under debrincats return. So think a good 1st (or equivalent) and a good 2nd (or equivalent) for him.

Not if he comes signed to a new contract. It has been reported that Sharks are letting teams talk to his agent.

A pick in the 20s is far different than a 7th oa. I can’t see San Jose taking a low 1st and 2nd.

It was already reported that teams can speak to Meier’s agent about extensions. Sharks passed on lambert twice in the draft, I imagine they aren’t interested in him in a trade.

Problem with Meier is he has a 10m qualifying offer and I feel like he’s gonna want 10m. Issues is he’s only a ppg player.

Sharks could have taken him early (1), they traded back. Could of had him at 27 (2), and took Bystedt instead.

QO is 10M, that means by the deadline (right before RFA deadline, if I remember), they need to offer him a 1yr/10M deal, which would be the last year of Meier's UFA. Why would any player take a 1yr10M and risk it all versus say, a 8x8M or higher.

I don't view that as passing on Lambert twice, I view that as a brutally bad trade by Grier.

I don't know much about Meier off the ice. Does he seem like someone that would commit 8yrs to Winnipeg.?Takes a certain kind to commit to a place like that, for that long.

Umm, because it is smart to do so. The Cap is going way up.

    1 year @ $10mm
7 years @ $9mm (as a UFA, and I think that is a conservative amount. Gaudreau just signed for $9.75mm on a smaller cap)

    = $73mm.

Why would Meier take $9,000,000 less? Don't know about you, but $9mm is a lot of money.

And FYI, RFA deadline is after the season is over.

What team is giving up a top-10 2023 pick? Answer = No one.

What team is giving up an A+ prospect? Answer = No one. (depending on your definition of an A+ prospect).

Take it from a BUF fan. We traded ROR and Eichel. We did not get the return we all hoped for (although the returns we got have definitely worked out now, in hindsight).

    ROR <> cap dumps, Tage, + late first 1st + 2nd
    Eichel <> Tuch, Krebs, 1st + 2nd (for a 3rd).

They both play C, duh, and had contracts in place.

Meier is a W. A good one, but not getting returns like they got.

The Debrincat deal makes sense, but I don't know what team is trading #7OA. But a 1st, 2nd, 3rd could work. I just don't know who does that unless contract certainty is in place.

Big game hunting really isn't Chevys style and Meiers' pending RFA status, giant upcoming contract and dealing with the potential loss of PLD kinda scares me.
Personally I would be more comfortable going after Konecny (if available)
if the jets were to trade so many assets I think a C with term should be the target

You ever heard of this thing called risk? His teammate Labanc certainly has.

Yes I know, I'm saying no QO has to even be offered until July 3rd...

Yay. You know. I was answering a question.

Lol. You think Labanc and Meier are similar? I don't and I'm not even a SJS fan.
