The Sharks need high end young talent more than anything. I expect the centerpiece for any Meier trade to be a top 10 pick or an A+ prospect. Lots of teams would love to add Meier so your package needs to be competitive. Your late 1st or A- to B+ prospects as a centerpiece will certainly get out bid.
What team is giving up a top-10 2023 pick? Answer = No one.
What team is giving up an A+ prospect? Answer = No one. (depending on your definition of an A+ prospect).
Take it from a BUF fan. We traded ROR and Eichel. We did not get the return we all hoped for (although the returns we got have definitely worked out now, in hindsight).
ROR <> cap dumps, Tage, + late first 1st + 2nd
Eichel <> Tuch, Krebs, 1st + 2nd (for a 3rd).
They both play C, duh, and had contracts in place.
Meier is a W. A good one, but not getting returns like they got.
The Debrincat deal makes sense, but I don't know what team is trading #7OA. But a 1st, 2nd, 3rd could work. I just don't know who does that unless contract certainty is in place.
