Description
Just stating teams I thought should have taken a chance on Tolvanen before he got all the way to Seattle.
Transactions
1.
NSH
    Waivers
    CHI
      Tolvanen

With Chicago rebuilding I feel it will be less attractive for potential free agents and they are likely going to lose a few bodies at this deadline. They have the cap space and be could be an upgrade potentially on a couple players.
      2.
      NSH
        Waivers
        PHI
          Tolvanen

Another team that has the cap space and could potentially use an upgrade on the roster.
          3.
          NSH
            Waivers
            CGY
              Tolvanen

Calgary I feel could use a top 6 winger and Tolvanen might not necessarily be that but he might have been worth a try considering they wouldn't need to give anything to for him, if he doesn't work then they just move on.
              4.
              NSH
                Waivers
                EDM
                  Tolvanen

Another Alberta team I thought might take a risk on Tolvanen. They would likely need to make a move when Kane returns but by then they should know if he worked out, then they move someone else, or if he doesn't, then they just move on from him as well.
                  5.
                  NSH
                    Waivers
                    DET
                      Tolvanen

Another team with more than enough cap space. They also are missing 5 forwards right now. They do have decent forward depth and Berggren is playing quite nicely but he might have been worth the risk. Many Zadina Tolvanen change of scenery trades have been proposed so it might have been worth the risk for them.

Its based on last years results. Wasnt Seattle the third worst team? Only MTL and ARI would have passed on this

After the first week of November it switches to the current seasons standings.

Detroit have Söderblom back from injury and getting up to speed in Grand Rapids and Robby Fabbri is back in practice and will soon be ready to return too so I get that Yzerman doesn't want another left shooting winger at this moment in time.

No it's not... Seattle was the 23rd team on the list...

I honestly thought Ottawa would have been a perfect fit.

I'm surprised Hawks didn't claim him. Although w/ Tyler Johnson ready to return from IR, there isn't a top 6 spot open for him until Hawks start trading guys

A lot of the teams would have passed on him just based off his cap hit, like Edmonton and Calgary. Detroit probably don't have a spot for him and maybe CHI didn't think they had one either.

Not every team is going to think that he's actually an upgrade on their guys or that he could make a come back.

When you pick up a player off of waivers he has to stay on your roster or go through waivers again.

Detroit have Söderblom back from injury and getting up to speed in Grand Rapids and Robby Fabbri is back in practice and will soon be ready to return too so I get that Yzerman doesn't want another left shooting winger at this moment in time.

I didn't know that about Fabbri, Detroit was a stretch and just cause they are my team lol

Flyers couldn't claim him, they are maxed out on contracts.

Ah I didn't look at the number of contracts nor did I think about that, thank you.

A lot of the teams would have passed on him just based off his cap hit, like Edmonton and Calgary. Detroit probably don't have a spot for him and maybe CHI didn't think they had one either.

Not every team is going to think that he's actually an upgrade on their guys or that he could make a come back.

Calgary and Edmonton both currently have the cap space for him. The term left might have scared them a bit but I think for teams both looking for forward depth he might have been an attractive option to try out at least. Edmonton would have to make a move once Kane returned though but as I stated they would know if he worked out or not by then.

No way Calgary was claiming him, the TDL cap space is far more valuable for this year. If Tolvanen was performing well enough to outplay our own call ups then sure but that's not the case

I honestly thought Ottawa would have been a perfect fit.

I thought about them but they have so many good young forwards that I think they would prefer to put them in the line up, also the reason I left Anaheim out.

I'm surprised Hawks didn't claim him. Although w/ Tyler Johnson ready to return from IR, there isn't a top 6 spot open for him until Hawks start trading guys

I honestly thought they would have been the best team to. Even with Johnson coming back there could be a spot made for him. Also I don't think it's going to be a super attractive free agent destination for the best couple years based on the team rebuilding.

Wouldn't be very smart to go out of their way to acquire a guy who needs a change of scenery even for free with the limited cap space either team has. It would have cost the Oilers an arm and a leg when they want to make a trade to become compliant again.

He was practicing without the "no contact" jersey yesterday so is getting close to returning. He'll probably get a conditioning stint in GR to shake off some rust but should be good to go before the new year.

Would have been a cheaper option than trading for someone if he worked out. If he didn't buy trade deadline he goes back on waivers and either sits in the minors or gets claimed.

You miss the point. His cap hit would have cost Calgary over 2M in TDL cap space. Right now they can afford to add a player like Tarasenko for example at the deadline, with Tolvanen they can't. Tarasenko is undoubtedly a better player than Tolvanen regardless of acquisition cost

I'm sorry but Söderblom should stay in the AHL for a while he needs to get stronger. His style of play for the most part depends on him using his body to keep defenders at bay. A good example is Tage Thompson now I 'm not saying Söderblom is going to be as good. But strength is the reason it took Thompson 4 seasons to breakout. The same applies to a lot of power forwards as well.
