The Oilers are not a good team. Not saying Dermott is the difference in that series but he is a good player. Edler is no longer really worth a roster spot[/quote]
The Oilers went to the conference finals, have two of the best offensive players in the league and the Kings took them further than Calgary. If they are bad, does that mean the whole West is weak?
In comparison to Edler, Demott last season put up: less points, worse possession metrics, less ATOI, saw weaker competition, lack of pacific division experience, less blocked shots, less takeaways, and is coming in at double the price.
The Kings need is for a somewhat balanced top-4 player to play with Matt Roy (a stay at home defenseman) to drive some play. Want to know who had the best possession numbers and second most offensive output? Alex Edler.
You can say Dermott was a good player but is he ready for tougher competition and minutes? The Kings have a guy who was proven with them last season at the league minimum while they let their youth core develop. Anyone who thinks that Edler at that price is a rip off didn't watch him play at all last season. I mean the only trade the Kings made at the deadline last seasonwas to get his old line partner Troy Stretcher. The Kings management absolutely loved the guy.
