this deal is gonna hurt in 3-4 years, but its solid right now.
what a turnaround for CGY, from losing gaudreau and tkachuk to getting huberdeau, weegar, and kadri
unbelievable work by treliving
Here's the thing...
Next year the cap goes up $1 million.
The year after that, the cap goes up $1 million.
The year after that, the cap is expected to go up by $7 million, maybe more.
At this point, $7 million for even 60-point player will be an okay deal.

yeah but he's gotta fall off at some point. 7M for a bottom six guy with even a 100M cap isnt good
its gonna hurt in the later years. think 2026-2029
If it's front loaded and there isn't huge bonuses (aka easier buyout) then it would be a W.
But as is, IMO Calgary is signing excellents players in their prime that will start to decline. The back end of those contracts will stink, probably including Weegar who should be next.
I agree with you, but with the expected increase in cap space in a couple of years, I don't think it will be a big deal.
Hopefully the Canucks and JT Miller can make a similar deal now.
The signing made a lot of sense for the flames, the went from a team with a questionable next couple years to a team that I think can make semis in all reality. Especially if they can dump Monahans contract. This off-season has been such a rollercoaster for this team and I love the drama.
With that said, term bites but that's a question for later
Don't forget that BOTH the Lucic and Monahan deals are up after this year. So Calgary's cap situation really isn't all that bad considering the spending spree they've been on.
Happy for Calgary. The fan base deserves this. Hopefully they take a step forward this year.
Tkachuk and Gaudreau = Huberdeau, Kadri, Weegar. Not the worst transition.
You're correct. Fans were thinking the Flames had to rebuilt. But no...if they had 19m allotted for Tkachuk and Gaudreau just spend that cap wisely on other players. That been said I don't like the term for Huberdeau and Kadri.
Very happy that's not a 8M$ or plus contract. However with 7 years, the last few years of his contract will be heavy on the cap space tho. Surprised he didn't sign with the NYI also with all the rumors going around
The Cap limit is gonna go up top. Think almost 4M higher than it is now
