If they want to leave in free agency then the return you are expecting here is halved. Blues aren’t trading Thomas. Thomas>>>>nylander and Thomas contract>>>>>nylander contract. LA laughs too, no shot they give up three of their best assets for a rental matthews and if he does intend on resigning then why not wait till he’s a UFA?

How convenient that Muzzin retires.....like 5.6m convenient. While I'm sure Matthews is leaving, it doesn't mean the Leafs would trade him. If they consider themselves Cup contenders they keep him. Just like all contenders....they don't trade UFAs. Now next summer if the Leafs could pull over a "Tkachuk" deal that Calgary did, well the Leafs would go for that .

Kings aren't trading Fiala, Byfield, and a 1st for 2 years of Matthews.

Kopitar's contract falls off right when Matthews becomes a free agent.

Potentially the Kings could keep Fiala, Byfield, 1st round pick and make a run for Matthews.

Kings laugh if you offer that. If Matthew’s is leaving his value is tanked. Odds are they hang up the phone and sign him for free in 2024. Keep him for two more first round exits and then let him leave for free.
