Hockey Quebec has officially cut ties with Hockey Canada. I presume this means that QMJHL players aren't going to be tied to any of the WJC's this year until another governing body takes the helm.

Think it's Harsh but necessary, puts Team Canada in a weird spot really. I'd presume OHL and WHL and soon to follow. Wonder if that means to be another version of ROC is coming for Canada

I could see the WHL or OHL do the same, it's the right thing to do until there's change and they get to the bottom of this

Edit: it's Hockey Quebec that cut ties, so i guess it'd be Hockey Ontario, etc that'd be the others

Scotiabank, Tim Hortons, Hockey Quebec, the list will only grow ( and that’s not counting that Telus, Canadian Tire, Imperial oil pulled out in August )

Good! Once the money stops flowing, it'll officially spell the end of them. Its only a matter of time now.

Telus is officially out. I think their initial withdrawal was only partial. Now all funding is severed.

There's no twitter post, but Tim Houston (Nova Scotia's Premier) just said he needs to see major changes from Hockey Canada if they expect Nova Scotia to host the WJC

No idea, could be no WJ, could just affect team Canada, they simply don't specify what they could do to the WJC

If they do pull out of hosting the WJC, that means Moncton will be the sole host of the event, and that’s IF they don’t also pull out (which could very well be likely).

Curious to see what happens next.

Nova Scotia's premier said they won't host the tournament unless changes are made.

Is this an opportunity for Canadian colleges to step up and fill some of the development void? Perhaps join the NCAA also.

Probably not.

The CHL is the governing junior hockey body in Canada, not Hockey Canada. I think it's a road we cross in a decade, as hopefully the findings and reinvention of Canada's international hockey board pave the way for more high schools, colleges, and universities to make their way into the NCAA format.

Not really, Canadian hockey college programs don’t have the name recognition or talent development most US colleges do, in Canada, your choices are CHL, USHL or American college if you want your best shot at reaching the NHL

Could they possibly move to location to the USA (say, somewhere in Minnesota perhaps) for a year? I recall hearing very small rumors of the WJC moving to the US for Covid reasons last year, but I don't remember if there was any legitimacy to those claims.

Think that's because you already get your tuition payed for if you play in the CHL. It's really the same thing without the name.

I'd imagine there will be changes here in the next few weeks. Don't think Hockey Canada can hold out for much longer.

Yeah, I doubt they can keep up the façade long. Other question, does Hockey Canada have a version of USA's Safesport? From what I've read it doesn't seem to be the case in Canada right now, but I know the US passed a law in 2017 that essentially forces all organizations in the US like USA Hockey to work with and assist the new "US Center for SafeSport" and now any reports of sexual assault or other crimes that occur no longer get reported to the USA Hockey organization, but instead to a more independent US Center for SafeSport.

And if Canada doesn't have something like that, would that type of law be something you see Canada considering?

In case anyone cares, the link to the law. (Page 4 is the main part)

As far as I'm aware, Canada does have such an organization but it's not mandatory for Hockey Canada to have been partnered with the Canadian version of SafeSport. I believe the CHL, USports, and all of the junior-B leagues are aligned with that organization but Hockey Canada was not.
