Oh yay… another Nylander to Columbus trade, that’s exactly what Columbus needs another RW who plays soft and doesn’t go to the corners or dig for the puck and doesn’t play defence.

Seattle possibly considers that deal with Driedger now most likely out for the regular season next year, Mrazek's buyout will be more palatable at the end of next season if they want to go ahead with it.

Why would Edmonton trade a 24 year old Puljujarvi who still has RFA rights and most likely signs for less than $3.5M, for a 27 year old pending UFA making $3.5M? Toronto adds something here, no way it gets done one-for-one.

I don't know if CBJ takes that - I feel like they probably can get good value for a full retained Nyquist without having to drop their pick from #12 to #78, but I could see them considering it.

What I can't see being considered is Anaheim trading *both* their goalies for a package that doesn't bring an NHL-caliber goalie back. Woll might be good in a year or two, but this is setting up the team to be absolutely brutal next year and I can't see them doing it for a package headlined by Rasmus Sandin & Nick Robertson.

In fairness here, and we all know that I'm not a Leafs fan, that was the end of a 1 min+ shift and was a lose-lose play. At no point was he winning that race and keeping possession, because Cernak would have absolutely lit him up (Which wouldn't have been beneficial at all). The fact that he uses his stick to almost steal the puck there also shows you that going balls deep to get rocked isn't always the right play.

You're not winning a Cup with that guy on your team. He won't pay the price to win. He won't sacrifice himself for his team. There's no excuse for pulling up like that. Look at the way young Hagel is playing injured for Tampa and still has the courage to block shots. That's how you win in the playoffs.

I used to watch Tommy Holmstrom get abused in front of the net from guys like Pronger and Hatcher and he just kept coming back for more which would usually result in a Lidstrom shot from the point becoming a goal because of the screen Holmstrom provided. Holmstrom paid the price for his team. Nylander won't.

Meh. Nylander has been over a point per game player the past two playoff rounds...I don't think I'm blaming any of the Leafs issues on him not getting his head knocked off by Cernak. Hagel is a role player-that's what role players do. Is Stamkos running around putting himself in dumb situations? Kuch is a different breed.

Great. Then if your goal is to be an excellent regular season team (like the Leafs are) then Nylander is your guy. Stamkos leads by example and is an excellent Captain. He does what it takes to win when it matters most.

I'm just curious...as a non-Leafs fan here...but, if they win that first round series, does everyone suddenly become a better leader? A better playoff performer? I mean, the narrative last year was that Marner was a playoff no-show (consistently...even though he ranked just outside of the top 100 all time in playoff points per game...), but all of the sudden this year he plays well and we're not hearing that? So, if Nylander takes that hit and doesn't get his head knocked off, do people just all of the sudden not pick out some other part of his game that they inevitably don't like?

Nylander has been a part of 6 straight first round playoff failures. But apologists like yourself will always keep on making excuses for him. It's the Leafs fans way of accepting playoff failure and you're obviously a Leafs fan. Just curious, do you always make excuses for your favourite players?

C'mon man, you're better than that. If you've ever seen anything that I've ever posted (which you have, since we've interacted multiple times), you'll know that I have zero ties to Nylander, I don't particularly like the Leafs, and couldn't care less if they win or lose. People who just absolutely loathe the Leafs, including a lot of their own fans, just absolutely hate nice things, which is hilarious to me. What I don't do is sit here and beat it to my own personal bias, which is, in your case at least, apparently fueled by the talking heads on TV instead of any sort of logic, analytics, or even the 'ol eye test.

@Ritzy-Apparently I'm part of your Leafs crew now because of my apparent undying love of the Leafs. Is my initiation that l have to successfully trade Muzzin without taking into account his full NTC? tears of joy Sorry @oldnyifan and @salzy, the Ducks bus just got lighter pals.

This calls for a thread!

"If I, Lenny7, were a Leafs fan, I would simply trade away the bad contracts on my team for better players on better contracts, while tossing in a rare 4th or 5th round pick to even it out, because that's what works in NHL 22!"

Sometimes I look back and miss the days where we'd see 8 or 9 Leafs threads a day with "Bracco for Josh Manson straight up!".

This.

The only reason Edmonton trades Puljujarvi is if they don't have the <$3.5M cap space his next contract will require. There's no reason for them to trade him for a rental who is making $3.5M.
