KINGS
Blake Lizotte should make significantly more than his Qualifying Offer and you haven't even given Akil Thomas his, but you have enough elastic in the cap space to overcome that. My main issue is with the inclusion of Erik Portillo in the Saros trade. Since Saros is a lame duck, it would be risky to send the guy we expect to be able to take over for him in the near future back the other way. If Portillo is a "make or break" hinge, then I would prefer to invest that $5 million in a winger (or two) for Pierre-Luc DuBois.

Seattle Kraken signed Caden Price (3 Years / $950,000 AAV)
I wanted the Kings to draft this kid at #54. I hope they were right and I was wrong, but I'll be rooting for Price anyway.

Buying out Skinner and trading Savoie and Power
The gulf between Power and Jiricek dwarfs any advantage you might get from adding two bottom-6 forwards. If we were talking about Pavel Mintyukov, who was taken four places later than Jiricek, I could understand this, but as is, this is a terrible idea for Buffalo. It's not inconceivable that Power starts getting mentioned in Norris Trophy discussions soon.

Yes, as much as I love Frankie Vatrano, and I love Frankie Vatrano, I would do that as the Anaheim GM.

Ek, Rossi, Hartman, Khusnutdinov, Gaudreau at the NHL level with Yurov/Heidt/Kumpulainen/Bankier/Haight/Stramel/etc all developing.

You don't really pretend to believe that Khusnutdinov is ready to be your #2C or that Gaudreau is qualified to be, do you? Or that Hartman, with his 47% faceoff win rate, belongs there instead of RW? Or that the "developing" kids you name are ready for the NHL this season?
Yes, for the immediate time being, you're thin at centre.

Leafs offseason
With Dobson gone, the Islanders would have 17 roster slots filled and about $10 million in cap space. How do you propose NY absorb Marner's current cap hit, re-up Liljegren, and fill the other 4 roster slots in light of that reality?

Rossi for Knies - Who Says No
Matt Knies is a fine power forward prospect but Minnesota is thin at centre and Marco Rossi is the only possible candidate for their #2C next season. This trade would necessitate Minnesota making another move so I think that the Wild would decline.

skinner off the books

Quoting: AntiAnalytics

He’s overpaid- no one is “happy” about that
But as far as Skinner goes in general, it just doesn’t matter what myself- or my fellow fans- think about him
The Sabres like him and are ABSOLUTELY NOT going to pay to get him off their books
This year was a down season offensively for many of our players
Year before, he went 35g-47a-82pts
Season before that, 33-30-63pts
Bottom line is that he isn’t going anywhere this season
And if he has another down season instead of bouncing back,
then we can look to buy him out fairly affordably

I hear that, loud and clear.

Packing picks for bad contracts
Buffalo is under no pressure to pay anything significant to move Jeff Skinner's contract, let alone Ryan Johnson, let alone the 11th overall pick in this year's draft. They've dealt with that boat anchor for five seasons now, so there's no reason to think that it's any great burden this year when the cap ceiling is expected to rise $4 million and the RFAs to be re-signed won't be getting significant raises with the possible exception of UPL. And that's if Skinner would consider waiving his NMC, which I highly doubt -- he seems committed to western NY.

skinner off the books
This idea gets a No from two different directions. Skinner is highly unlikely to waive his NMC for Anaheim, and Pat Verbeek is highly unlikely to trade away our locker-room-favorite team leader who is our only right-handed NHL-qualified defenseman for two left-handed forwards, of whom we have ten already on the roster for next year. And that's without discussing the effect having a $9 million AAV contract on the books would work on the negotiations for Trevor's new contract in 2025-2026.

Quacks
We have five of our top 6 set for the balance of the decade: Cutter Gauthier and Trevor Zegras at LW, Leo Carlsson and Mason McTavish at C, and Troy Terry at RW. We shouldn't be trading any of them unless we get a replacement for him PLUS fill a hole somewhere else. And that will be virtually impossible unless another GM makes a mistake.

I can't see Minnesota trading their only potential candidate for #2C next season for an expensive lame duck winger (the over-the-horizon second doesn't come close to making up for that).

You need several seasons of Matt Boldy and Marco Rossi a lot more than you need one season of Mitch Marner, and if Marner is going to re-sign with you in 2025, you can wait until 2025 for him to do so.
I'm not spending a second-round draft pick on Filip Gustavsson, who could be this year's Scott Darling (one and done).

Zegras in Toronto
Knies is a power forward with an excellent potential, but I'm not sure that the late first and a prospect who isn't superior to Tristan Luneau or Noah Warren sufficiently completes the package for Zegras, especially if we land Artyom Levshunov in the draft. What I am sure of, though, is that we wouldn't be including an NHL-quality young defenseman on a cheap second contract in the deal.

Hronek to anaheim
Leave Mikheyev out of this for the moment, because we certainly don't need bottom-6 left-handed forwards with a big cap hit (and he has a M-NTC anyway).
Frankie with retention (who's worth a first plus) and the Boston second for Hronek seems fair, and the Edmonton first plus our second (pick #35) for Hronek seems fair. If you want/need cap relief and insist on getting a better deal, we could take Mikheyev and the San Jose sixth as part of the trade.

One big shot and a bunch of youth
Somebody's bound to offer Matt Roy at least $5 million for 5 seasons.
Hard to see Mo Seider getting half a million less than Jake Sanderson.
I don't think Stevie has it in his bones to pay someone (especially a second) to take Justin Holl off his hands. After all, Stevie signed him to that contract.

I disagree. Yes, he's no Matt Boldy, and we might do better over the long run with Martin Necas, but flash is important in this market.

Quoting: GiggywithGibby

Reinbacher was a reach at 5, McTavish was a steal at 3, start adding.

In his D+1 (age 20) year, Pavel Mintyukov played 63 games and recorded 4 goals and 28 points. It will be interesting to see what Reinbacher does this season by comparison.

Ducks get Cole Caufield, in exchange for, Mason McTavish & Anaheims's 1st in 2024

Equating Mason McTavish, who was the third overall selection in his draft and has already proven himself a top-6 NHL center, with the untested David Reinbacher is bad enough, but saying that Anaheim's top-5 draft pick in 2024 has the same value as Montreal's second-round draft pick a year from now is simply idiotic.
And the idea that the difference between 0.57 PPG Mason McTavish and 0.5 PPG Juraj Slafkovsky is Anaheim's 2024 first is equally counter-factual.

Next season
This is a terrible idea for the Canadiens. The odds are that the player Montreal selects with the fifth overall pick will be worth far more over the course of his career in Quebec than the value of having Marner for one non-playoff year, and if Marner is going to re-sign with Montreal in 2025, you can wait until 2025 for him to do it because you're not contending for anything this coming season.

Another Big Offseason Move
In their current cap situation, the Kings need NHL-qualified youngsters on minimal contracts, which Kaliyev's new deal will be. (I'd be shocked if he gets more than $1.25 million AAV.) Trading him for picks is non-progressive.
