I'll always love Pageau but there's no going backwards for Ottawa. They made the right choice to cash out on his big UFA season and to not be the team to give him that contract. The 2nd is going in the wrong direction imo, White's on a bad deal but the buyout is negligible. There's no getting away from Pageau's deal.

No, you should be opening your eyes. The only reason he is on said 4th line, is because of center depth and to ease him into the Canes system. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Caufield and Suzuki also stagnating while Ducharme was behind the bench. Can’t wait to see Caufield and Suzuki eventually get run out of town by fans like you. I mean, Montreal does like doing that as history has shown.

To be fair, I think OP is just going extreme here. JGP has been exactly what most Islanders fans have expected - a 40 point player in the regular season with strong defensive numbers, with the ability to bring it up a notch during the playoffs. There's still a chance the last couple years of his deal get a little dicey, but if he gives 4 good seasons and 2 forgettable ones on a 6 year deal, I'll call it a win still. I think it still depends on Greig putting it together on the big stage, but it feels like both teams got exactly what they wanted out of that deal.
