Wasn't the guy we knew last year who would lay out hits, block shots, and play a solid defensive game. Good news is he is rested and the aches and pains have now had time to heal

that's fair, what I've noticed is his skating has gotten worse which is normal for a defenseman his age, that's why he hasn't been as good defending the blue line and overall it's affected his transition + offensive impact.
