Marino ranks 3rd on the team in ice-time. A right-handed defensemen who can move the puck, skate out of trouble, has a high hockey IQ, has play-off experience and is just 24 years old. They don’t grow on trees. Pens could get more for him in the future too.
And he’s signed long term. Till 2027. And making 4.4M per. For what D-man are getting paid nowadays. That’s a steal.
And I just can’t see a world where they trade Marino. With Letang being a UFA this offseason and the most unlikely of Geno-Letang-Rust to sign an extension. And the next best RHD on the team being Ruhwedel and a guy in the AHL named Maniscalco.
And sorry, but that’s the world we live in right now.
Even though Myers( at 4M per) is good. I just don’t see Vancouver retaining 2M for next season either. And Garland isn’t a Hextall/Burke type player.
If Marino gets moved, which I doubt, I think It’s for Boeser and Schenn. And Boeser agrees to a long term deal for something like 6M-6.5Mper @ 5-6 years(same as Guentzel and probably around what Rust will take to resign too). I don’t think Pens want anything to do with his 7.5M QO. He has to agree to a more lucrative long term deal at a lower AVV.
Thai doenst work anyways. Zucker is skating and coming off the IR soon.
Don’t do that Schmidt deal. He makes too much and has a bad term. Have the 3rd pairing D be Friedman/Ruhwedel. Ruhwedel has been more than capable.
Don’t do the Dvorak trade either. Or the Edmonton deal.
Just trade Kappy for a 2nd or for another young, RFA winger that could use a change of scenery like Zacha, D.Gurianov, L.Kunin, or Olofsson.
Even though it seems like a lateral move and Kappy might be the best of the bunch but something needs to happen with the Kappy situation. I hope he gets going and stays with the Pens but that doenst look likely right now.
Keep the 4th line ZAR/Blueger/McGinn. And the 3rd line; Zucker/Carter/Erod. 2nd line Heinen/Geno/???.
