I think Gauthier is the Sens pick. He has all the things that the Sens scouts and general manager like and he has a lot of potential. He also has NHL bloodlines which the Sens like.

Guy was our two 'C' coming into the season. He scored 7 points in 12 games coming out of college and skated around the Winnipeg Jets.
Give him one or two more years and he could push Norris for 1C.

5 Minute Mock Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Alfie11</b></div><div>I wouldn’t be surprised if the Sens took Gauthier, he ticks a lotta boxes our scouts like. 7oa NEEDS to be a winger for Stutzle unless Nemec or Jiricek inexplicably fall. 39oa should be a RD imo (Chesley or Salomonsson maybe, Luneau works too, maybe Lamoureux) unless Miroshnichenko is still there. Then the 63-65oa and 72oa picks should be another winger (I’m a big Rohrer fan too) and maybe a goalie (wouldn’t hate taking Leinonen, he’s the type of guy you leave in Finland for like 2-3 years, then bring him over for some AHL seasoning and hope you have an NHL contributor by like 2028).</div></div>
For me this would be close to my dream draft
7th OA : Cutter Gauthier
Day 2 :
39 OA Tristan Luneau
64 OA : Mavrik Lamereux (Falls a bit but I could see it if some people rise)
72 OA Lucas Edmonds
87 OA Topi Ronni
104 OA : Vinzenz Rohrer
136 OA Brady Stonehouse
143 OA Matt Maggio
151 OA: Stephen Halliday
168 OA Daniel Hauser
206 OA Hugo Havelid
Especially Havelid. He reminds me a lot of Juuse Saros and that could be a huge steal in 5+ years.

Im honestly so tired of drafting out of the same systems because we refuse to pay adequate scouting staff.
Im so tired of picking NHL bloodlines. I wish OTT would invest more into analytics based drafting.</div></div>
He's been advertised as having one of the most complete games out of the draft and that he could be an enormous steal.
There was a great hockey writers article on him that you might want to read. It's posted in this thread.

Kemell is under contract in Liiga for 1 or 2 more seasons and Savoie would be subject to be sent back to the WHL under the transfer agreement if he doesn't make the team.
Kemell also plans to go back for next year.

Yet, that won't happen cause that base would be taking to many important needs away from an Ottawa team and Greig is as close to untouchable as there is without being untouchable.

Because he fits the "style" of player they have already draft is a terrible excuse for why the *should* target him.</div></div>
I mean, he is an Ottawa pick to a tee though. He's got NHL bloodlines something Dorian loves. He's got size, and complete two way game and a lot of offensive potential. All things Dorian loves and he's got a scrapy gritty style that Dorian loves. He is also a University commitement which is something that the Sens love so I would be very suprised to see the Sens skip out on him if he is available.

Maybe, I think it's possible he gets to 7th OA and if Ottawa trades that pick I'm gonna go balistic cause I think he would be a great addition to the team cause he fits their identity. Maybe you strick a deal with Columbus to get the 6thOA pick if he is still there.

Future Considerations. Or potentially Gardner depending on the years left on his deal. But if you look around the league that Canes trade is the amount of cap you have to spend for a decent third pair defenseman.

Canadian team trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Rocket</b></div><div>Holl is only included as a cap dump, ditto Dickinson.
Dickinson was very good in Dallas but brutal in Vancouver. Imo he needs a fresh start and I have seen Holl-Dickinson swaps in here before. It’s basically 2 trades, Holl for Dickinson and engvall for a third.
And yeah, that Ottawa trade is not a good long term move for vancouver but getting out of the final year of Myers contract imo is very important. Not worth a 1st but it’s something I’m sure vancouver is exploring options for</div></div>
Holl is not a cap dump. That is where you are first wrong. He is a valuable third pairing defenseman on a decent contract. He can also play up to 20:00 minutes and kill penalties. If that is a cap dump that almost everyother defenseman in the league is a cap dump. He is not even on a big cap and Toronto is actually taking more money back and they would love to keep Engvall.
Also, you have no idea how much Ottawa fans and managment like Zub if you think that that deal is bad for Vancouver. It's actually bad for Ottawa as Zub could easily return a 1st + and then you're not paying for the Myers contract.

Canadian team trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>newballcoach</b></div><div>So is Vancouver trying to compete next year or not? They were brutal this year, and you haven't improved the roster much, if at all.
You're also making it virtually impossible to keep Miller and Horvat next year, which if you're trying to be competitive, you would want to do.
What's the long-term plan here?</div></div>
I mean if you adjust the contracts (to their appropriate worth) than some deals are fine. The Vancouver Toronto one would be a base and their would need to be a little bit more going back to Toronto. Not much though. Ottawa probably declines cause Zub alone is worth a 1st + and then Ottawa is getting nothing for taking on Tyler Myers and that would not happen. I'd say that Edmonton one is fine although Edmonton may want to keep the Foegele - McLeod - Puljijarvi line together cause that turned out to be a very good line in the playoffs.

Boston Saves Cap - Ottawa Gets A Veteran Presence Without Spending Salary
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>budgeteam</b></div><div>You are misunderstanding what I am saying.
My point was, in the proposal I made, Ottawa IS NOT spending millions on a fourth liner. Boston takes Del Zotto, retains salary, and pays Foligno's signing bonus. This makes it money in/money out. Del Zotto is a sunk cost.
I said they shouldn't go out and pay a premium for a 4th liner in defense of this proposal, because with this proposal they aren't paying a premium. They are exchanging a sunk cost (Del Zotto) for a more useful piece (Foligno), and it is salary in/salary out, and does not cost Ottawa any assets.</div></div>
Yet, why would Ottawa subtract from an area of need. (Defense) To add to an area of strength were Ottawa has Kelly, Reinhart, Crookshanks, Kastelic, Gambrell, Gaudette, Watson, Lodin, Sokolov, and Greig all fighting for time. Especially paying one 3m to do the job that a 750K young rookie could to a lot better.
He is also getting paid more than Del Zotto 3.8m even without his bonus and has a M-NTC that means he will likely block Ottawa as a trade destination. So essentially they are exchanging one sunk cost that is in an area of need for another sunk cost that is in an area of surplus.
