The return

Description
Lets bring back Domi and Subban, they both had the Habs tattooed on their hearts.

They play with emotion and would thrive under MSL (okay maybe not Subban... but Domi most definitely). If Subban is not possible - I would Target Schultz

Drouin would then be traded at TD retained for extra picks.

ARI trade :

ARI needs player under contract (with no NMC lol)
Struble is a sweetener

EDM trade

the Oilers need more of a D-first RHD - they have a few PMD - Savard can play that role, similar to Larsson was for the oil- tough defensive minutes. They get to move Barries' contract - and habs add a PMD thats a PP specialist. a QB per say.

DVORAK trade:

Any team - I want to make place for Domi - I want Domi's spunk back in the line-up... with Anderson and Gally it would make it team will a few pests.

Hoffman/Drouin trade :

Its him or Drouin to make place for Krastsov on the LW - can't have him playing on the fourth line. Drouin retained (got a year left) would be easier to trade.

Lehkonen trade:

Lehkonen will be trade at the TD this year. He's got good value - but as a RFA, he will command a higher salary this offseason... and we can't afford luxury third liners if we are rebuilding. NYR have the cap space for him. or they can always flip him. I really want to acquire Krastsov - probably overrated, but still - i like the hands.

2023 outlook : we will have $19,047,500 to sign Caufield (6.5M*8), Poehling (2.5M*3) and Ylonen (1.2M *2) = 8.8M left.

In term of timeline -

with Drouin and Byron's contracts expiring - there are two spot opening on the top 9 for prospect.

AS for Dmen - Barrie and edmundson have 2 years left (petry and subban 3 years left) - which give Ghule, Romanov, Harris and Norlinder - an extra 2 years before they are needed in a bigger role.

Same goes for Mailloux and Nemec (which we should traget) who will see a spot open in 2 years, and two more in 3 years - gives time to the habs to properly develop them in the AHL or Europe.

longterm line-up build

Caufield - Suzuki - Anderson
Krastsov - Domi - Gally/Ylonen
RHP - Evans/RP - Gally/Ylonen
Pezzetta - Evans/RP - X

Guhle - Mailloux
Romanov -Nemec
Harris - Norlinder

That may not be a bad trade. I actually wanted Savard before you guys signed him… I believe he would play better on a team like Edmonton than he has been on Montreal. Saving 1M would be nice too. I would like to see our options, but this could be a trade worth accepting later on.

EDM and MTL have the potential to be great trading partners. Especially with MTL having so much cap space!

dont think the habs are going to want to throw Struble away for nothing, Armia may be slightly overpaid but no need to give away a prospect in that deal.

Domi has no business being resigned especially at 6 mil dont want to touch that at all. Subban on a cheap deal could buy some time to figure out what the right side of our d will be for the future but that will also bring a whole lot of unnecessary attention that may not be worth it.,

I believe Domi could bring some spice back in Gally's game ... who has seen all his friends traded away in the last few years!

Domi, Shaw, Tatar, Danault, Chucky, Beaulieu ...

Definitely! I do think Holland and Hughes can find a trade that is good for both sides. Like you said, we need a top 4 RHD, not one that is a PP specialist like Barrie, but one that is better defensively like Savard… if we got a guy like Savard, or Manson, I think we would have a chance of making the playoffs.

I just don’t really see the point to this. That team still looks miles away from even sniffing a playoff spot, and they’ve locked up a lot of money long term.

I think Domi at C, with MSL and good wingers could go back to his 72 pts form. 6x6 is the market price... saddly.

The way I see it with Subban is to make a rebuild easier to swallow! Bring a fan favorite - also habs are changing the business model with Chantal Machabée. They want to end the really conservative aura around the team - like the VGK and CAR. So big personnality like Subban will be used to hype the games up- he will be given a platform.

It sells better and makes it a fun show to justified selling nosebleed tickets for 100$ and 14$ beer.

Max Domi 6x6 feels like a major overpay for what his recent production has been, I don't think Habs fans would be happy with the production on that deal. I'd rather sign him to a 1/2 year deal and then extend him out if he bounces back to his 2018-19 form - that season is looking more and more to be an outlier and I wouldn't want to be stuck with that contract when he's putting up 35-40 point seasons still.

I think Mike Hoffman is going to be harder to move than you realize - he's a 32 year old goalscorer who's stopped scoring a ton of goals and has two more years at $4.5M. He's also the guy I'd think about dumping on Arizona more than Armia - he's got less term left and less actual dollars (Armia would cost $11.6M in real dollars vs. $10M for Hoffman) which might be a concern for the Coyotes going forward. The Armia contract is easier to buy out/retain if you need to (either 3 years at $1.7M on retention, or $1.7/0/900K/1.3/1.3/1.3 if you bought him out this summer.)

I know yall don't want Chariot, but at the same time, him and Savard would greatly help for a playoff push, hell even Allen could be available! - the question is the price and cap space- most your cap is tied-up on player you won't trade...

Good points

I would still take a chance on Domi - I believe he wants to settle somewhere longterm - so maybe a lower AAV on a longterm contract might tempt him... I feel like hes the type of guy who's more about picking a team he like rather than just money. I actually think he'll take a discount to play in Toronto for a year.

- at the end, I think KH will move what I call luxury players: premium third liners and specialists.

but the biggest contract is Suzuki with 7.8M, they have plenty of cap space - and they have a lot of good prospect in bank and a good amount of picks going forward. Look at that Dcore - if it reaches the potential we think these players have... its gonna be one of the best Dcore in the league.

We have decent first line for the future - I admit the second line could be better - but then again, a few good first round pick, some prospect going over their ceiling .. and BAM we are competing. and when the time comes - we have the cap space to sign the missing piece.

This team would probably miss the playoff and pick top 10 (especially because of how strong the East is... but it would be entertaining games to watch... which is what habs fan want... win or lose, I want to be entertained.

Its possible domi gets back to that form but i dont think we need him to be honest. I'm all for going after another center and theres going to be option out there but i would see Hughes going after a center whose a little older and would be looking for a deal in the 3-4 year range knowing we have several young players coming through who will be needing raises in the near future.

Subban for sure would have a better time under the new management and wouldnt be shocked if they brought him back depending on the contract but i dont think they need to worry about making the team more exciting. If you have been watching over the past dozen games or so, they have plenty of players that are entertaining to watch, most of which arent going anywhere. Couple that with some of the young d coming up and some flyer prospect like Ferrell and Roy in our system that are having great season in their respective leagues and it seems the future should be much more exciting regadless of what moves we make.

I know - I mostly see Subban serving a double role of making following the habs entertaining and being a transitional piece to give time to our prospect to properly develop.

I could see KH going for an older C to get that leadership! Could he offer Malkin / Bergeron / Giroux a 3-4y 10M contract? ahahah. Bergeron signing would make me squeal like a 12 year old girl sighting Justin Bieber at a Starbuck

While I know the Dvorak trade is not specifically the Pens, and as someone who was quite high on Dvorak, he's done nothing help his value this year. I really had higher expectations for him, but honestly, at this point I'm not even sure he's worth a 2nd. I know he's been out, but his production prior to injury was really not great. Personally I think he's worth a 3 + Good prospect, THAT SAID, I can a team offering a 2nd plus an ok prospect.

You have to realize that Hoffman's offensive deployment and shooting percentage are down, and Montreal has one of the league's worst power plays.
He was brought in to be an offensive PP shooter, and hasn't been given the same quantity or quality of opportunities to support that role.
Just another example of Ducharme trying to mold players into his system, rather than adjust his system to get the best out of his players.

I expect Hoffman to rebound eventually, but he's currently lining up with Dauphin and Gallagher. I like Dauphin, but he's not a top 6C or puck distributor. Hoffman needs someone to feed him pucks.

Ghule (I'm 80% sure he becomes a top 4 D - hes got the tools)
Romanov is only getting better.
Mailloux is dominating in the OHL
Nemec is already great against men

Harris and Norlinder are question marks yes... but they have a lot of potential - and lets not forget all 2nd round picks and guys like Corey Schunemman who can develop to be legit pieces.

Probably trade next year after a fresh start of the season. no rush to trade him is is not an UFA

Just have to hope his production picks up when he returns if you want any value. Truthfully, you guys are probably better off just holding on to him. You still need to ice a hockey team lol
