<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>Koskinen has been average over the past two seasons. Among 58 goalies to play at least 35 games Koskinen's .910 sv% was <a href="http://www.nhl.com/stats/goalies?reportType=season&amp;seasonFrom=20192020&amp;seasonTo=20202021&amp;gameType=2&amp;filter=gamesPlayed,gte,35&amp;sort=savePct&amp;page=0&amp;pageSize=50" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">29th best.</a>

However, Koskinen's numbers were dragged down by the beginning of 20-21 when Smith was injured and Holland screwed up the backup situation repeatedly, which meant that Koskinen had to play every game of a wicked schedule - 12 games in 24 nights traveling thousands of miles through 4 time zones - which isn't something ANY goalie can stand up under. It wasn't fair to Koskinen but Tippett had little choice but to keep throwing him over the boards, so his results were poor over that stretch. I don't fault Koskinen for that, he did his best in an impossible situation.

If you pull those 12 games out of the equation to get a look at how he performs under normal circumstances, his save percentage over the past two seasons is .916, which places him 17th of the top 58 goaltenders - 70th percentile.

Now, if you look at CapFriendly's list of top-earning goaltenders, you'll see that Mikko has the <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/browse/active/2022/caphit/all/goalies">19th highest cap hit.</a> He's not overpaid, he's not a cap dump. The Oilers need him a lot more than they need the cap space, as they won't be able to use it to upgrade any other part of the roster enough to offset the downgrade that is losing Koskinen.

Nothing about this is worth a high pick.</div></div>

Very well thought out response. The problem with Koskinen is that people who have never watched him play only hear of the bad games and think that every game went that way. I still think they need to upgrade but Dell isn't better just cheaper.
