Bruins pass since DeBrusk is having a better season that Zacha and there seems to be something there with Vaakanainen

Most of these are overpayment for Zacha, nobody giving up a 1st for him

Debrusk has been better over last couple weeks...but Zacha has been better over last couple of years.
And certainly did well last night.

Not getting more than debrusk for zacha. Vaakanainen is playing on the bruins top pair when not concussed.

I doubt the market for Zacha will be that much. He will probably be a good middle-six winger in the long term. If I was Minny, I'd offer nothing more than a 2nd plus a low-level prospect (Simon Johansson, for example). Zacha will likely be dealt for another young forward with a lot of yesterday's promise, however.

I would do #9 if NJ would retain. Seems like a wager worth making for Colorado.

Salary retention is one thing we always do. Palmieri, Zajac, Vatanen, Simmons, Hall, Johansson, etc.
Fortunately, we have well-funded owners and lots of cap space.
Unfortunately, we have learned how to be sellers at recent years' deadlines.

Just to say, I tend to mix Jost and Kaut up. So I agree that Devils should decline #9.
I do rate Vanecek though. #10 looks fine to me.

you mean last year. 1, singularly. debrusk has had 1 bad year. 43 in 70 as a rookie (16 goals), 42 in 68 year 2 (27 goals), 35 in 65 year 3 (19 goals), 14 in 41 year 4 (4 goals), 24 in 48 (current) (14 goals) (currently on paced for 41 points and 24 goals over an 82 game period).

comparison wise: zacha 24 in 70 (rookie year) (8 goals), 25 in 69 year 2 (8 goals), 25 in 61 year 3 (13 goals), 32 in 65 year 4 (8 goals), 35 in 50 year 5 (17 goals), 25 in 50 year 6 (12 goals) Current pace of 20 goals. other than last year his production was never higher than debrusks. so lets cool it on the "zachas been better for a few years" 1... 1 year he was better. doesnt make him worth more.

I haven't broken down their numbers, but I would guess for ~2 years leading up to this month, Zacha had been better (coincided with when he was moved from defensive center to wing).

I'd be pretty disappointed if we gave up a first for Zacha, I just think at this point he is what he is: fine middle 6 player. 2nd and a small add sounds about right, but even then I wouldn't be too interested personally. We do need help up the middle, but our problem is we have too many middle/bottom 6 centers and no top 6 centers so it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to acquire another middle 6 center.

I think a 1 for 1 swap for another player that could use a change in scenery makes sense. Tippett, Kostin, Mittelstadt, etc. Similar to the Glass for Patrick trade this past offseason

I don't think Toronto evens give you an offer because their prospects are better suited to be used to improve their defence and their goaltending. They really would have nowhere to play him. Minnesota is much the same thing. It would be a hockey deal.

debrusk admitted outright that he struggled with isolation from covid. mentally and physically. it was not a good year for him last year. im not chalking that up as an excuse because plenty of guys performed but for most of the year zacha has been playing with hischier and bratt... and debrusk was playing with coyle/haula and a filler 3rw. just saying just because zachas stats look better for the last year and a half doesnt paint the whole story. bruins arent giving up debrusk + for zacha.

The three types of deals the Devils should take
1) Hockey swap with Zacha and a player around his age/skill
2) Young goalie like Samsonov
3) Late 1st

If none of these options are available, rather keep him

I could see that...

1) Boeser, Garland, Puljujarvi, etc
2) Samsonov
3) late 1st pick to flip for [Boeser, Garland, Puljujarvi, Samonsov, etc] in off-season

Easy no for Minnesota. Minnesota doesn't need wingers at all...

We have too many centers and too few wingers. Gotta be something there.

I mean zacha isn't a C. Specifically he isn't a top 6c. So even if Fiala is dealt, it will be for a 1st and elc contract

I was thinking more Boqvist or Zetterlund for equivalent winger.
