It's generally a bad idea to take 2 effective defenceman out of the lineup to replace them with worse players. Mayfield is as bad a fit for TO's system as you can find and Schenn would be 8th on our depth chart.

I mean if the first round match up is a wild card team not named the Bruins then probably. It's insane that the options are literally Florida, Tampa, Washington or Boston.

16 teams don't make playoffs. 8 teams don't make it past the first round. You look at the East......8 good teams making the playoffs. Anyone can win, anyone can lose.
Yep adding a Dman for any team wanting a long playoff run seems wise. I don't think those players suggested move the needle unless their are injuries to the regular Dmen.

If Schenn is an 8th dman but is a top 4/6 for us then that just goes to show how bad our defense depth is. Though to be fair Schenn is a very valuable piece of our defense and I would be sad to see him go

Isles would pass on that, Mayfield is worth more as RD3 with a cap hit of $1.45M next year than Dermott and a 4th are to them.

Maybe they can beat Washington but have a tough time seeing them beat the other 3 especially if Boston adds someone at the deadline

But the Isles are in a much bigger need of a younger LHD than a 29yr old RHD, how much would you consider Mayfield to be worth if you don’t mind me asking

Washington puts the same scare into me as a Montreal does if they make the playoffs. Price gets hot, good luck everyone else, same as Ovechikin, Kuznetsov, Backstrom, I think if they took over a series one of the top seeds could be in trouble. History has shown that they don't always do that though. No easy path to the finals in the East!

Agreed will be tough for Toronto . If Campbell doesn’t hold it down in the playoffs, Toronto will be out quickly

A lot of other posters have suggested the trade of Mayfield for a 1st or 2nd+a player.

Robin Salo's development has made it a little less important for the Islanders to get a young LD for next season at this point. Swapping Mayfield for Dermott would basically be swapping their $1.45M RD3 for a $1.5M LD3 who's a couple years younger (and doesn't have the same experience Mayfield does in Trotz's system). I think the Isles would want a little more than a 4th to give up the player with a longer track record of success; but I can understand Toronto fans' concerns with Mayfield fitting into their more offensive system, which is why I ultimately think that the two teams won't really line up on a deal for Mayfield.

Any other team that is a top 5 team in the NHL and ppl are calling them cup contenders, but it's the leafs and the playoffs lol. I still think they should beat the bruins and caps given what I've seen this regular season, although I'm not confident lol. Florida hasn't exactly shown they are playoff tested either, granted they did play Tampa and had goalie issues and it was a still a good series. I would be more hopeful with a Florida series then a Tampa series, simply bcuz TML for the most part hasn't had issues with D in playoffs it has been more so scoring and Florida is not as good defensively as Tampa and even though Bob has had a good year this year, he doesn't have a great track record in the playoffs at all.
