A wild offseason PT2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NucksnOilers</b></div><div>This is somewhat a concept of Barzal asking out, Dobson and Sorokin are most likely untouchable due to the scarcity of their contracts and positions but I'd argue Barzal isn't. He's going to be almost 28 when the Isles rebuild starts with 6 years left on his deal. If they're in a position where they can't compete due to the lack of talent + being in an extremely tough division (Carolina, New Jersey, The Rangers and one of the Jackets or Flyers will probably all be absolute juggernauts) he may ask out or at least suggest a change in scenery. He would bring back an absolute haul (as seen above) and would be a kickstart to a much needed rebuild</div></div>
He loves Long Island and Isles aren’t going to rebuild any time soon. This is just as much of a hypothetical as saying Kaprizov wanting out of MIN because they haven’t won and it’s not a desirable city to live in. We can do if and buts with anybody in the league lol
And in terms of value I think the isles could get higher end talent anyways. If Isles were to even consider trading Barzal they are going to want an elite prospect and high end pick. Think like Byfield for example. I don’t think Rossi is near that

Isles are not going to trade Barzal. He is as untouchable as Dobson, Horvat and Sorokin. Isles would move on from Lee or Pageau if they are changing up their core

Offseason - Anders Lee Open Discusison
I think I would prefer to make this a 2025 1st (lottery protected) with nothing coming back and use that 13th pick for a player like Chychrun (extended) now. But its interesting and something to think about

I love Anders, he hasn’t scored 30 since he hit 40 once. Guy can’t skate/keep up with his linemates and isn’t a net front force any more. If you want to make some real, meaningful changes to the roster, creatively finding a way to shed his full $7m cap hit is the way to do it. He’s a $4m player right now tops

Not so sure. I've seen OTT fans offer Chychrun up to the Isles for our 1st this year. I've also seen OTT fans trade their 3rd and 4th for Pageau. This is just combining them and saving OTT the picks. I think it's within reason.

reset for roy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tm0000</b></div><div>He's the only forward not named Barzal, Horvat or Nelson that has a significant cap hit and and won't cost assets to move out. That's the only reason to move him - they can create cap space and get an asset back rather than spending assets to do so.</div></div>
But you're taking a known net positive out of the lineup. Unless that extra $5m is somehow bringing in Guentzel as a UFA to replace Palms, I would rather keep him. Pageau might not return a lot but I don't think he's a pure cap dump. I feel like we can move on from him rather easily if we want to clear space. Lee will be the burden and I prefer to not buy him out unless it's absolutely necessary. I hate dead cap like that on the books

reset for roy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tm0000</b></div><div>Palmieri is not a cap dump. At the deadline, Arizona got a 6th for Zucker who is 1) having a bad season (11 goals to Palmieri's 22) and 2) more expensive than Palms. I don't think they'll get much for Palms, but a one year rental on a cheap contract should be easily movable. I'd look at Toffoli as a comp - one year of him at $4.25MM was worth a 3rd and a good young roster player (Sharangovich). Palms is not going to be coming off as good a season as Toffoli was, so he won't return a package that good, but a 3rd or a 4th without the player seems reasonable.
I agree with the Hawks fans who don't want to pay for him though; he doesn't make sense for a rebuilding team. He'd only make sense for a playoff team that was looking for some secondary scoring with no long-term commitment required.</div></div>
I'll take it a step further. Why trade Palmieri at all? He's been fantastic under Roy. Best forward not named Barzal or Horvat. There are guys in the top-9F group who should be moved on from. Palms is not one of them

There are certainly reasons he could be let go, but I don't think ownership let's him hire Roy if there was a possibility Lou got fired in the summer. Malkin/Ledecky don't know anything about hockey and will trust Lou implicitly whether it's right or wrong. Lou is GM/President/Alternate Governor of their board. He is entrenched here

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NickC1988</b></div><div>Paccioretty is on the 3rd line playing for the oldest team in the league. Been watching a lot of Caps lately and he does not have top 6 legs. Teravainen would be a nice signing, but I think another team makes a better offer. Carolina probably matches that and he'll take home more money post-tax. It's shaping up to be a weird offseason, not too many big names on the hot seat. We should see a couple pop up after round 1 of playoffs.</div></div>
I'm pretty confident Turbo is out in Carolina just because of how many other key guys they might/need to sign (Necas, Jarvis, Pesce, Skjei, Drury, Chatfield, Martinook) and that doesn't even include if they are trying to keep Guentzel. Maybe spend an extra million on him from the hypothetical Patches contract and play an Iskhakov/Dufour on the cheap instead.

As long as Lou is in charge he’s mortgaging, he said post deadline the 1st was in play for the right player. Maybe that changes with a pick in the range you gave, but an extended Chychrun works for me.

I truly don’t believe Pageau is a cap dump, but for the sake of financials any deal involving Chychrun probably means some salary has to go back. Everything Lou and Staios said to the media post deadline sounds to me like something will be revisited in the summer. I could definitely see Chychrun to NYI happening

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>The same reason werenski had leverage is why Dobson does as well. There’s no reason for him to take less than his comparables when no one on the isles has taken a discount relative to market value recently.
Dahlin was a slight overpay, but the market is the market. Young #1 defenseman are rare and get paid.
Seider hasn’t signed 8x8. Also Horvat has been very good this season but it doesn’t work that way where Dobsons ceiling for cap hit is a top 6 center who signed as a UFA at 28 years old.
I would love for Dobson to sign 8x8 but there’s not one contract I can think of that points to Dobson getting less than 8.5 mill. Point per game defenseman don’t grow on trees</div></div>
I thought Seider signed $8x8 already? Maybe I’m mistaken there. I have no doubt he’s getting a max term extension. I thought Pulock at the time was fairly team friendly

Here are the #1 defenseman off the top of my head who have signed contracts coming off of a bridge contract
Dahlin: 11 x 8
Mcavoy: 9.5 x 8
Werenski: 9.5 x 6
Sergachev: 8.5 x 8</div></div>
Werenski had total leverage on CBJ as they had stars leaving the team left and right. He had to be overpaid to stay. I think Dahlin is a great player but to me that was also an overpay. I realize he didn’t bridge first but Seider signing $8x8 still feels like a decent comparable. Hoping for less, but I still don’t think Dobson will get more than Horvat’s $8.5

Less than Horvat’s IMO. I nailed the $4x3 bridge a couple years ago. Going $8x8 as my guess
