You think it might be too low on the Jets side that would be like Montreal offering Tuch + Ylonen + 2nd for Ehlers. I know Ehlers is better and that it is just an example of how bad this is.

Dillon has been great for us, no sense in moving him. Also, Wheeler isn't going anywhere. Not sure why so many people are quick to get rid of him this year. He hasn't been anywhere near as bad as what people are saying. 20pts in 28 games, he can still produce.

Dillon hasn't been bad at all. I think the point is that the Left D is really crowded with him, JMo, Stanley, Samberg and Heinola all looking for NHL minutes. Dillon isn't the problem but from a cap perspective he would make sense to move to open up a spot for Samberg/Heinola. Really we could trade Dillon and one of Stanley/Samberg/Heinola because we still have Chisholm that is looking really promising.

We gave up 2 - 2nds for him but the kids are ready so we should re-coup those picks.

I think that isn't terrible as 1st for Copp and the 2nd + DeBrusk for Dillon. The issue with DeBrusk is his qualifying offer. I don't think he's worth $4.85M and that means that we would have to choose him over Copp.

It's not a terrible offer though. What do you think we could flip just DeBrusk for? What kind of offers do you get for him?

That would be my thoughts as well. Although I like Dillon, at some point we have to make room for the kids too.

Getting rid of Wheeler might not be best, because it might cost too much to dump him and at that point, maybe it's just a level of diminishing returns for an apparently good guy and good leader (which matters in a place like Winnipeg where players don't want to play). But to bring up production as a reason is wild. Jets should get rid of that contract immediately if they care to win soon.

I think if we spend a first, it'll be for a defenceman. However, if we upgrade our D without spending a first or excessive draft capital, while I think we don't need a F add, Copp would be the kind of guy to go after if we did add up front. Hard nosed, defensively sound forward who has been putting up points and could fill in at center if one of AM or JT got hurt.

My main point is that even is that getting rid of Wheeler just simply won't happen. The Jets are (too) loyal of a franchise and I can't see them ever moving on from their captain no matter how many people want him gone. Has he regressed? Absolutely, but I think he is still a good player for this team. He most definitely isn't worth his $8.25m cap hit but like you said, it matters when a guy wants to play here as we aren't attracting top name free agents. I don't think anyone thought the latter half of his contract would look very good given his age, but in my mind there is no doubt they will ride it out.

Yeah I think all those off-ice things and what he means to the organization matters. And I think they ultimately matter more than just a cap dump. What I actually would do after the Copp and Stastiny moves for futures is try to make a hockey move for Scheifele. Admittedly unlike most I'm not a Scheifele guy, but I think now is the perfect time to move him. He still has term and a low caphit, and I imagine his value is still high amongst GMs around the league. Build around Dubois, KC, Ehlers, and Perfetti upfront, maybe rework the d a bit and play the young guys, and hope Hellebuyck goes back to his regular self.
