With overpaid, struggling RHDs apparently getting such big returns the Canucks will give you Myers for a 1st and Mysak to replace Petry

Dude, c'mon. An elephant would know Dallas will not deal Bourque for Petry, let alone Bourque AND a '22 1st.

I know it's unlikely, but Dallas are likely loosing Klingberg in the offseason and Petry is clearly having an off-year - I'm pretty sure 2020-2021 or 2019-2020 Petry would fetch that return.

He is also signed to a reasonable 6.5M which is below market value for RHD of his skills. (Jones (9.5M) and Klinberg (app. 9M) would have been comparaisons [while I believe they are both slightly better than Petry]).

He seems more like a Giodarno who aged well, rather than a Subban.

So while his value is debatable, Hugues doesn't have to trade him unless he gets value for him. At worst his play right now is only helping the tank.

DAL trade is trash. Would be willing to take Petry if Habs retained $1,25M, and Bourque and first gets replaced by Dellandrea and 2nd. I think even that is an overpayment considering how bad Petry has been this year but I suppose DAL could be taking a punt on him returning to form.

But only if the cost is reasonable. This is far from that.

Don't understand french but the name Stankoven is an immediate no for us.

There's four prospects in our system that will not be included to deals as of now and those are Johnston, Bourque, Harley and Stankoven.

Heh. I doubt many teams will agree that 3x6.25 past this season for a 34-year-old who has fallen off a cliff this season qualifies as reasonable. And if Hughes expects a return anything like that one, Petry isn't going anywhere.

Yeah, that's an overpayment. We could use the same logic here by offering Radulov for a grade A+ prospect or a 1st round pick. Our "sales pitch" would be the same as for Petry: Look at Rads stats for last year and the year before. And in the PO!

On top of being 34 + The Contract + The awful season, Petry just shown some very poor leadership when Kassian destroyed their goaltender. All that while wearing an "A" on his jersey. I don't want him anywhere near Dallas.

Agreed, although RHD is much more valuable position than the wing is, the impact difference is also massive.

I don't what Petry either. That contract in relation to his performance and age is a massive red flag. But at the same time DAL does need a RHD to a certain extent and Petry, despite his abysmal year this year, did play really well last year. He could be a cheaper option to shine through, assuming DAL can catch a favorable deal here.

Lets discuss that statement: falling off a cliff... could it be explained by something else than the decline of Petry who is ''this season'' removed from 4 straight 40+ pts seasons with 42pts in 55 games just last year...

MMMh I wonder if his 6 points in 37 games might be caused by something else? Maybe the lost of our #1 and #3 Dman for all season, the lost of our #1 C - the fact that Price, his good friend (whose wife is his wife's BF) has entered the player assistance program, the fact that his wife literally left Canada with his unborn child to espace the covid restriction in Québec. The fact that he played the Stanley cup final with multiple injuries like a broken hand and bloodshot eyes.... and yet it was not enough to win.

Could it be that all of this has affected his game?

Or is that he declined from 42pts in 55 games to 6 pts in 37 because the earth did a full rotation around the earth since then?

I don't know which is more likely?

I have bad news. It's not always temporary, especially when you're 34. Besides, his current trade value is the only thing that matters in a discussion about trading him now. Would Montreal pay in a trade based on "Well, maybe it will all be corrected after you pay full value as if he's not fading fast with an albatross contract"?
