Likely a bit of an overpay for TML-- but the return is an ideal fit. Upgraded top 6, and add depth. Accept.

I literally have zero idea what he's worth, just here for fun, so I appreciate the friendly feedback

Not worth a late pick in the 1st and your 6th/7th D-man ? while getting another 6/7 guy back too ?

I think the Canes are much more willing to trade for a rental D than a rental forward.

I’d take that trade for Manson, however I think the Leafs might go after someone like TJ Brodie who can move the puck a little better and still have strong defensive prowess rather than Manson. Maybe if they plan to pair Manson with Rielly then a trade like this will go down but that’s just my 2 cents tho.

I think Montreal could get that package for Petry + 3rd, Lehky I would keep and teams are said to be willing to pay a 1st for him.

You’re missing out on great hockey then…

They have plenty of NHL defenseman, but the question isn’t quantity but quality. Manson would be a very solid defenseman to add to our lineup which would be a difference maker as a solid RHD for our 3rd pairing with the ability to play top 4, or give us the option to slot Tony D down into the 3rd pairing.

We have a plethora of players who can fill in as 6/7 defenseman in a pinch. With Manson I’d see our d being as follows;

Slavin / Manson (or DeAngelo)
Skjei / Pesce
Cole / DeAngelo

Smith/Bear/AHL depth as extras

Of course you might have to subtract Bear if he’s part of the package.

No, we shouldn't get another 2022 first just to spend it on Jeff Petry. Let some other team (including Montreal) take the risk that he rebounds from his recent struggles. We're developing a young team, and a veteran signed until after he's 37 doesn't fit the program.

I’m not sure how elite is is, but it’s a formidable corps that has some flexibility and depth in case of injury. Bear will be a good player, he just has some work to do and may not be a fit this year.

Light years better 3rd pairing that what was rolled out last year. That is a major focus in the playoffs…need all 3 d pairs able to play against anyone.

Meh, not super interested in Petry/Lehk with where we're at, to be honest. Having an "All-offence" right side, and acquiring a player that's having a big 'ol $hit year as a 34 year old doesn't seem like a smart move at all. The team is, regardless of the standings, still in a rebuild, and flipping a 1st round pick isn't a smart move.

With Lehkonen, I don't really see any interest. They've already got their quota of wingers who can't score filled, and while combining him with Silfverberg would be a pretty solid shutdown line, again, it doesn't make sense.

Plus, Petry has a NMC.

From MTL: I think Lehky + Petry should bring a better Prospect/ youth than Steel... we have plenty of that like Evans, Poehling, Pitlick...etc...
I would think that a younger A-Prosect + late 1st + Steel would be fair and forget the 5th round/3rd rd pick...
I know Comtois would be the perfect target but Ducks would probably say NO!

Manson isn't really an upgrade for the cost he will garner. He's not really better than Holl

and Holl isn't going anywhere in this. Brodie, Manson, Holl on the right side is stronger than Brodie, Holl, Lilly or Dermott.

I agree it may be an overpayment- as I posted above- but it's a good fit. IMO.

You must mean Brodie. And I just think it's excessive. Braun is much cheaper and I think as effective as Manson.

I think it's a good fit, but I'd also be cautious of overpaying. A first would be the absolute max I'd pay.

I think it would be a mistake, Manson doesn't really improve us. He's been less effective than Holl but has this reputation that he's some sort of monster defensive defenceman. All of his value comes from a good season and playoff run several years ago. He's been less than Holl ever since.

Yes.. mistype. Barrie helps no one.

Braun definitely cheaper-- but I wouldn't think he's as effective. Better cash to talent value for sure. But this Anaheim post isn't going to write about TML getting Braun.
