Description
Should the habs win the lottery and get to pick first Overall.

I believe a trade down could be an attractive option.

I believe habs would be better off with one pick in the top 10 and a second in the 20-30 range.

I have Arizona in mind as they have more than one pick, but it could be another team looking for a good center in Wright.

I would draft Nemec or the other RD.

We have a strong LD... but right now the RD is not looking good.... I don't want to spend the next decade looking for a RD. Like we did for a LHD during Weber's tenure.

Lets have a great top 4 in D with Romanov, Ghule, Harris, Mailloux and Nemec. We have Suzuki has #1C and Dvorak/Poehling for #2C. Lets run with those for now - and wingers are always available in UFA and in the draft - more chance to find a stud in late rounds for forwards.

I get a MASSIVE Yakupov feel from the guy. A lot of hype... but nothing to show for it. Exceptional status was also given to Veleno... doesn't mean anything.

Obviously - but for a #1C, what would you be ready to give up. It's not gonna be free aahah. I would love Edvisson, but I know that's a reach.... however, I don't know enough about the other prospect (except the obvious ones already on the team and therefore untouchable).

Edvinsson is untouchable for Detroit. Edvinsson - Seider have the potential to be the best pair in the leauge one day and I don't see Yzerman letting that go for Shane Wright. Beside Edvinsson + 12(ish) overall is Alot for the first this year IMO.

I think while it is concerning that Shane hasn’t put up much production, it’s not the same situation as Yakupov. I would say Shane is similarly to Lafreniere, more of a 2 way player who does the little things right but can’t get on the scoresheet enough. Nail was an off the board pick but has more skill & transition ability than both Shane & Laf. I think he and Nick Ritchie are similar. Have the ideal talent and build for a winger but extremely lazy & clumsy.

Cool idea, but these days I feel like no GM would be willing to give up the 1st overall pick anymore. Last time is happened was 19 years ago and its unlikely we see it happen again anytime soon

If you're gonna trade a 1st overall Wright feels like one that's safeish to move. Who knows but while expectations a few years ago made him seem like Matthews, Eichel level and it just doesn't seem to be the case. I wouldn't move the pick though unless you get 1 huge already know commodity in the deal and not just for parts.

Edmonton needs a goalie now not in 2 months. They refuse to give up a first rounder for chiarot.

He plays the left side and is left handed.

I was merely putting that out there since some still consider Seider/Raymond prospects on this site. I also wouldn’t be thrilled to do Edvinsson + our first since it should be around 8-10 barring no lottery win. Some would scoff at Cossa too but I wouldn’t.

Already considered it. If we have #1, take Wright. It's not even a choice. Those chances don't come often and you can't afford to second guess the consensus.

If we don't get #1, I'm checking if Columbus wants to trade up. It really depends on what the final order is, but they are around 8th and 9th right now.
If we could manage to grab one of the top RD and a C prospect, that's more appealing to me than only one of the non-Wright players.

Assuming we end up with another 1st, it might make sense to swap both 1st rounders. Columbus gets 2/3 + a pick in the 20's, and Montreal gets two picks around #10.
Again, depends on the order (if Columbus jumps up to top 5 with one of their picks, it makes less sense).

Depends on the prospect for Detroit.

The goalie Detroit traded to get Nedeljkovic has better numbers than Allen. So unless the prospect is Renouf or Lashoff this deal makes no sense for Detroit. I'm not even sure Chiarot is worth a 1st unless the 1st is in the 17th -14th pick then ok.

There must be some confusion. Isn’t OP saying Montreal gets first overall and then trades down with Detroit? So I’m saying I’d do Detroit 1st + Cossa for essentially Wright.

I wouldn't trade Cossa. I have to agree with MTLaveragefan when he said:

I get a MASSIVE Yakupov feel from the guy. A lot of hype... but nothing to show for it. Exceptional status was also given to Veleno... doesn't mean anything.

Edmonton needs a goalie now not in 2 months. They refuse to give up a first rounder for chiarot.

Meh the first rounder is for both of them - Bourgeault is for the cap retention and taking Koskinen. - its a TD trade, Allen will be there by then

I agree Shane Wright gives me the eeebeegbees!! I would take that trade to get the 3 and 4 and 26 1st rounders. Better than putting your eggs in 1 player

Stay at #1. Take Cooley. Much higher ceiling than Wright.

Red Wings hope is that Edvinsson and Seider will form a dominant defense pair for a long time. 👍

Ah their is confusion indeed - the Chariot trade is not applied to DET - its a separate trade.

Agreed. Cossa is a non starter. No pun intended.
