What a grind, good for him. Over 200 games in the minors, first NHL start tonight!

Hyped for this. Will only be the 2nd Caps rookie's debut I won't see in person (Didn't see protas :\ ). Hurts to see that VV is dealing with some sort of injury but seeing what Fucale did in Hershey makes me excited to see what he can do here. Only nitpick is that I would have rather him start against CBJ and let Sammy start tonight.

With how this team continues to preform despite all the injuries I'd say so. being near the top of the competitive metro without the entire 2nd line and now without the 4C and 1A goalie is pretty impressive. Call me crazy but I'm honestly more worried about the break for the Olympics, as the caps always seem to struggle out of All star break and especially in years where there is a break for the Olympics.

I would Jakub Dobes(MTL) to that future replacement also:

Goalies are soooooooooooo hard to predict. For me, I look at Dobes progression since he was drafted: 3.09 GAA and a .971sv% in the USHL. Now he is sporting almost a sub 1 GAA and a .960sv%. For a big goalie (6'4) he is quick and athletic. He doesn’t let much through him and his body doesn’t let pucks squeak through when he gets a piece on it. He has a lot of talent IMO.

This is not really a good take on rielly at all lul.

Rielly is at 86% finishing so I dont know why you say he isnt a good finisher lul. For the past 4 seasons he has been between 75-90% range which for an offensive Dman is very good. Rielly's play style should age pretty well as he is not an overly physical Dman and still manages to generate offense and points. Heck his defense recently has improved significantly. Just go watch last nights philly game. His only issue he passes more than he shoots thats something that will improve as he often generates more shots later on in the season. Cause rn as we are seeing if a Dman plays a physical hard game they fall off quick. But if they play a more open not to physical game they can continue to play at the same rate as they always have. Just look at Letang people said the same thing but despite being 34 he still plays a solid game and since Rielly plays a very similar game expecting no difference.

Rielly doesn’t play a similar game as Letang - Letang is much better defensively. FWIW Doms model has Brent Seabrook as Riellys closest comparable

Seabrook and Rielly play nothing alike. Seabrook played a much more physical game which resulted in his late collapse.

Rielly plays a more openly focusing on blocking shots more than hitting. A dman who rn compares pretty well with Rielly and his contract is the modern John Carlson. Carlson plays a very similar defensive game to rielly focusing on shot blocking more than hitting. Their PK numbers are around the same at 40% along with their even strength defense being in the same range. Now yes once upon a time he was much better but Carlsson rn is playing almost the exact same game Rielly. But if we want the best out of rielly 2018-2019 saw him at his best and while 20 goals would not be sustainable on a yearly basis that was the perfect example of a shoot first mentality as being at 99% was pretty good from his usual 68%.

Now Carlson's two big advantages are his offensive production and shot generation which are much higher. Now if Rielly focused on a shoot first pass later mentality like Carlson does than the offensive production should improve along with his offensive stats. As when you go from 49% shooting to 98% no wonder you generate a lot of points. If Rielly can replicate what he was doing back in 2019 then the offense will come back in force as when you shoot around 90% points will come.
