Seems like a steal for WSH upon first glance but it really isn't worth in for DC in my eyes. This would put WSH at about $3 mil over the cap (if my math is right, I wouldn't count on it) and they would need to sign both goalies in the offseason. plus, Oshie doesn't want to leave DC and neither does Washington. He's the heart and Soul of the team and seemingly on level pegging with Ovi for the role of locker room leader. The contract isn't great for the future, but trading him would hurt quite a bit. Also, as I have mentioned in other AGMs, Oshie has an NTC that would allow him to prevent a trade from DC.

Also no way LA gives up that much for Rielly.

WSH is over by 4 mil but who is counting, certainly not this fan. LA would also be over the Cap

Heart and Soul is literally why i want Oshie in a Marner trade, the leafs have absolutely 0 heart and it is a big problem for us as our 1st round exits show

And if LA is contending i think they might do it

Didn't Toronto already try this with locker room presences with veteran leadership? (ex. Thornton, Marleau, Simmonds) Seems it might not be that. On what Oshie brings, its exactly why Washington wouldn't trade him, and again he has an NTC that would nix the deal. Only places I can see Oshie waiving for is possibly Seattle or St Louis later in his career.

As for LA, even if they are contending, I don't see how this is the best use of their cap space, especially with the extension, since they will need to sign their young players in the near future. I don't see LA investing almost $20 million into 2 defensemen

Thornton and Simmonds are bottom-6 players who play 2 minutes a night, they wont provide the same value oshie would

I don't see how the amount of minutes played would affect someone's ability to be a leader, but acknowledging the Oshie brings more, its still not any reason for the Capitals to trade him. They could live without Oshie's on ice ability, but his off ice value is hard to replace. The guy is the type of player you want to represent your team, and I don't see why Washington would give that up anytime soon.

I have no idea why the Caps would ever do a Marner for Oshie 1 for 1 trade. Let alone this.

Why would Reilly do a sign and trade a year after every FA defenseman got a payday? He said he’d take a discount to stay with the Leafs not to sign and trade. Why give up your second best prospect and a 1st for a guy the Kings have a shot at getting for free in the off season?

Oshie and Hagelin for Marner seems fair. I don't know.

Adding Protas and a 1st is a nope. That looks like a whole other Marner trade, in an offseason, with cap space to spare.

The remaining issue is that when Backstrom is healthy, the Caps have to trade Eller for futures to get under the cap. If the rookies stick, they end up with four offensive centers, plus Nic Dowd. Somebody has to move to wing and that's an adjustment. Might make more sense to throw in Eller for Semyonov, to make the cap work for WSH, right away, and upgrade the Leafs at center.

eta: of course, Oshie was a team USA star, so unless he sees playing with Matthews as his ticket back to the team, he might want to stay in the States where he's a national hero to hockey fans.

Decent offer for Miller. Canucks would have to think about that one.

Yikes. Hard pass from LA.

I wouldn't even offer Rielly that contract as a UFA.

Replace Turcotte with Blake Lizotte or Jaret Anderson-Dolan and I can see the Kings doing that. I'm assuming no extension is in place, because after the figures we saw thrown around this off-season, Rielly is either going to re-up with Toronto or test the free-agent waters. And if he signs before the end of the season with Toronto, he'll be getting a NMC.

I just think a lot of people undervalue Rielly, a lot of people laugh at me when i say he is worth a 1st and a top prospect, but i strongly believe he is worth that (obviously with an extension because we cant get max value without it

On the contrary, I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks Rielly is worth a first and a good prospect even without an extension. After all, I think (and have often written) that that's what Hampus Lindholm is worth, and no one can argue that Lindholm is better than Rielly. But our 2022 first is likely to be in the 9 to 16 range (and from early-season results may be rather higher), and Alex Turcotte is far above "a good prospect."

IF Rielly came with the indicated extension, I think that Turcotte for Rielly even up is reasonable, but I wouldn't be fond of it.
