I think VAN would be VERY interested in either of Cernak or Foote if they were made available. Most likely fill-in for them would be value UFA signings though, like they've done with guys like Shattenkirk, Bogosian, etc. in previous years.

Why on earth would the Oilers retain on Stalock for a 7th? That helps Tampa and hurts the Oilers with next to no compensation. As it stands, the Oilers lose Stalock for nothing or he's likely 3rd string with a cap hit that gets buried without impact. Retaining would be a hit to our cap situation. It's almost as stupid as Chiarelli's buyout of Gryba (could've buried with no cap hit but bought out and had $300k on the cap for 2 years).

I really like Foote but Montreal already gave you a promising you left defender, we'll hold on this one.

That deal makes no sense for the habs. Romanov is younger and better plus hes expansion exempt. The habs dont have a spare spot for Foote.
