Mayfield, Stetcher, Hague, Whitecloud, Jensen , Theodore, Murphy , Muzzin, Weegar, Benning are all above average defensively. That’s half the list , and Murphy, Weegar , and Muzzin are top 30 defensive D in the league. If a player has a lot of turnovers, that could just mean they have the puck a lot

For most of those aforementioned players, I agree; my point is just that turning the puck over often is usually a sign of a bad defenseman, I still agree with your point that it's not necessarily true (but I guess now we're just arguing about semantics)

These are microstats not analytics , but I get what you mean. He knows that there is no context and he’s not arguing that good microstats mean you’re a good player. Andy Greene led all defenseman in puck battle win % and he sucks.

Let's hear a more general opinion on it. Who's the better D-man? Slavin vs. Werenski and Slavin vs. Hughes

Slavin easily for both, the Werenski comparison is closer than the Hughes one.

100%. Slavin is a Top 5 D-man in the league. It's ridiculous how underappreciated he is.

I’d take
Werenski > Slavin
Slavin > Hughes for winning today

Hughes > both if you’re a rebuilding team IG but Werenski is only 24 so it’s really close and I’d argue Hughes realistically could not surpass Werenski but he has the potential to blow by him with the likes of Fox and Makar

Slavin over Hughes easy ( sure Hughes might have the better potential ), Werenski over Slavin though

We need, and I mean really need to see 2021/22 for Slavin.

Many argue and there some info from guys like JFRESH that Slavin takes a hit when paired without Hamilton. Not that he becomes useless but that Hamilton uplifts Slavin because Slavin uplifts Hamilton and they paired really well. Slavin being a great TWD that took D more, and Hamilton was able to let loose. Both padding each others stats/ “backs”.

I'd say that's true but when you look at Hughes, you can't argue it because Hughes is sheltered. Werenski isn't sheltered so there is an argument, I'd take slavin though, maybe in the future Werenski can grow but slavins only like 3 years older I think.

Slavin. He is just so reliable in all situations and makes any guy he is partnered with significantly better.

Werenski > Slavin , Slavin>Hughes (right now). I do think Slavin is a bit overrated. Great top pairing D , but he’s probably in the 20-25 range for best defenseman but a lot of fans think he’s top 10

But the quickest counterpoint is that he just meshes so well with whomever he plays with and uplifts the team because he helps create a bonafide top pair. Slavin just knows how to play hockey, I say that because its simple, he just plays the right game with whomever hes with and whatever situation.

Thats why I think Slavin deserves a lot of praise and love. He wont be a HOF but hes a guy I can easily see looking back in the future and saying "damn that guy was so good"
