This isn't on Dubas at all. He gave them literally everything they needed to win (good goaltending, a well improved defence that was top 8 in the league, a high powered offence, grit, veteran leadership, depth throughout the lineup.. literally everything). It's not on him.
Keefe being fired is a long shot, but something to consider as I've said since game 3. It's his job to put the players in the best situation to succeed, and he did very little tog et the Matthews/Marner pair away from Danault and Weber/Chiarot. That's on him. But I think with how vastly the team improved under him in most areas, firing him would be an overreaction.
This is on the players. They're the ones who didn't perform, and changes are coming with the roster. Almost guaranteed. What that is, who knows. But any big move from the core 4 isn't as easy as people think.
Matthews and Tavares aren't going anywhere. Marner likely isn't either (as poor as he performed during the playoffs, he was still a top 5 scorer in the league during the season and moving him this off-season after a playoff like that is selling him well below his actual value. So unless a team massively overpays, he won't be moved). Nylander is a tough guy to move because he was their best player all playoffs. Doesn't make sense to move the guy that performed so well all year, but his value is at an all time high so it's worth exploring the idea. Rielly could be a likely candidate to go. He's the lone player that Dubas didn't bring into the organization and is part of the leadership core, so that's a shakeup in itself. Brodie was incredible all season, he's not being moved. Muzzin is highly inconsistent and as much as I'd like them to move him I highly doubt they do it. From there there's just no one to move of value that brings in anything useful. Outside of Rielly being moved, there's not much choice and it's on the players to figure this shiit out and change things or it's gonna be a complete blow up soon.
